Just bought an 03 need help please!
Unfortunately the used Evo market is laden with abused and poorly modified cars. Unless you are well informed, or take someone that is, you will get screwed.
As others have mentioned, spend the money to have the car looked at by a shop that knows Evos...broke or not. You've already spent $16K on the car...so another few hundred shouldn't cause a problem for you.

Some dealers give u a 30 or 90 day warranty when they sell u a car, if he just got it and it's giving him problems. He doesn't have the funds to fix it, then I suggest he takes it to them and pin point all his issues. Specially since he said something about knocking and that they put in a new clutch.

Bill Mcmahan from Macautosports thank you so much for the email. I made a huge mistake, i will admit when i saw this evo pretty much anything i was thinking about protecting myself went out the window completely. i really really FD up and i figure i'm going to have to pay for it. so i was just driving it today and it made a terrible noise like 3500 or less rpm getting on highway keeping out of boost as much as possible. so i pulled over and the hose that plugs into the back of the engine was blown off!!!!!! see picture. So i then decided well maybe when the dealer said the oil was changed "a few hundred miles ago" they were also lying so i check the oil well see the photo with what i found :O i think there is about a quart of oil in the entire motor so i called the dealer, probably 100 times within the last week. well he said that all the oil was being held in the valves, which i know is completely ridiculous. now i need to do damage control, how do i find out what is wrong with this thing do i need to get the block pulled apart or what? what can i do guys i know i made the mistake from h*ll but how do i fix it now? where do i go from here im completely lost you can read everything on these boards about evos, but everything changes once you own one.
pics in next post are pipe that blew off and looks like it has been off since we bought it, and the oil dip stick.

"Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices — Every state has an Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) law. These laws can often be used even if the used car is sold "as is," as long as the dealer is guilty of a verbal deception or a failure to disclose information about the vehicle."
Booth sold you what they knew was a time bomb. Shove that POS up thier @$$es. Or have them send it to MAC or MITS on thier dime, full inspection of the engine and drivetrain, and verify all the so called new parts. I would be surprised if they put a clutch in that car. If they did right before they sold it they should have the papers to prove it.
I am so glad Bill contacted you and hopefully put you on the right track.
