Emergency Electrical Diagnoses Please (Dr. House Style)
when you melt a fuse, that is not the only thing you burnt. You said you smell some burnt stuff under the dash. I guarantee you melted some insulation off some of the wires. Remove the harness, and check the friggin wires. When there is some magic smoke let out of the system, it's usually too much voltage for the wires to handle and they get hot real fast and melt insulation and are probably grounding or are burnt up. I know you did more damage than just a melted fuse.
+1.

its not a burnt wire smell, its a burnt component smell...and its very very mild. With wires, generally the smell is much stronger. The other thing that makes me think the harness is fine is the fact that as i am replacing things, the car is acting normal. I replaced the bulbs and the ETACS ECU and all of the lights are acting normal aside from when they go on and off in regards to powering them. I will do an inspection of the harness though, i am pulling the dash tomorrow actually.

the big problem is finding out what causes nothing to power with the key in the ACC position as well as why things do not power when the key is not in the ignition such as the flashers. Once i find that answer, i think this car is going to be fine. Tomorrow im going to test my headlight assemblies in another evo to see if they are working, but i imagine not. But i still need to check the voltages coming out of that harness in front. The rears are back working.
Can anyone give me any kind of diagram or anything for the ACC, and what feeds it ?

getting warmer...
replaced the ignition module and replaced the fuse under the hood in the yellow holder that had blown again and bingo, now my doors lock, lights turn on and dome lights work without the key in the ignition. The ring around my key hole lights up again.
I still have no clock or 4 way flasher light which points to the harness in the kick panel. Need to follow that around again I'm not sure if my radio is working yet or not, i removed it earlier to troubleshoot some other things. I have another clock and flasher module to install to test, I will do that tomorrow as well. Hopefully that is working again. Then its on to the SRS and Main ECUs. Probably the ABS and ACD ecu as well just because.

Sounds like you had a short to ground somewhere...do you still have you fenderliners in place? The harness that runs through the drivers side apparently gets carroded in some cases. In either case you should figure out what caused the problem in the first place, if you just keep replacing componenets till it starts its likely to happen again.

i think it was an over current issue. I am going to replace my clock and 4 way flasher assembly today. If those power up, then i should have all of the interior issues resolved. I still need to swap in the replacement ecu, but i will need to flash it first. I"m going to do that today as well. I'll keep this thread posted, if anyone else can come up with any ideas as to what sends power to the ecu, id appreciate it.

which relay box are we talking about ?
I only know of a few places containing relays... what does the 20amp fuse go to that you are referring to ?

Any more help on this ? The ecu i have in the car now i know works. The ecu is still not getting power though i dont think. I cant see any input voltage to it anyway. The harness that feeds the ecu looks like it goes around and under the SRS ecu... anyone know where else it goes from there and where the voltage that feeds the ecu comes from ? If the ecu fuse under the hood (big black box) Is bad... do you have a check for it ?
dude, you sound like the guys i use to work at a dealership with. they would throw parts and make up any excuse to not check wires. if you're still blowing fuses, my guess is that YOU HAVE SOME MELTED OR MESSED UP WIRES. you may also have a bad fuse block. check power into the fuse block, check power out of the fuse block, and check your wiring. koeo, from ignition to fuse block, to ecm. or just keep throwing parts at it. to see if the fuse block is bad, check for voltage into the fuse block, and out the bottom of the fuse block. or swap a known good one in. get a wiring diagram, that is extremely important when chasing electrical probs. good luck.

I have checked the obvious stuff such as power in and out of the box... the only thing i'm not sure of is where the ecu gets power from. I know what wires it is suppose to come in on, but i need to find the feeding wire. I havent blown any more fuses since i've started troubleshooting, i just have a few things that arent powering up. The radio didnt want to power up, but that may be the unit itself, the ecu doesnt seem to have any power. Tomorrow i am starting to voltage check the harness outputs, but i need to find out how to check the ecu fuse. I know i have 12v coming in to it.
