I have the switch wired so that DVD could still play while in motion.

Disabling the clutch safety switch

I have read in many posts about this clutch safety switch as if it has been around for years. I have just bought a new Lancer, 2014 model, and it is the first time I have ever had to press down on the clutch to start the car; I have been driving manuals since the 1980's and have owned six Mitsubishi's.

I just don't see the point of pressing down on the clutch when the car is already in neutral. I can see this new safety feature is a rather dangerous idea. What happens when someone gets used to this 'safety feature', drives an older car, gets lazy, does not put the car into neutral like any normal driver would, and attempts to start the engine. Wouldn't it be better just to train drivers to put the car into neutral to start with? We do live in a nanny state!

Anyway, what I want to ask, is how do I disable this very annoying 'safety feature'? I read in other posts that I can unplug the device? is it as simple as that? Where would I find the plug? or do I need to ground the wire from the clutch microswitch?

If my question sounds basic, please excuse me as while I am au fait at fitting car radio/d.v.d. players/reverse cameras, I don't really play with car wiring anymore.

ta,

Thank you

Thank you for the tutorial link. Hopefully the procedure to disable the 'safety feature' will be the same for my new Lancer CJ LS 2014 (Australian version). I pick up the car next week, and for the first time in my car driving life, it comes with that odd safety feature. Until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of this safety feature in manual cars.

Exactly in same situation lol been off since i bulid it after buying it. Always leave it in neutral when parked. When dad moves it he leaves it on gear. Always forget to check that and i stall

I've had mine unplugged since the car was brand new eleven years ago. Other people RARELY drive my car and those that do know it's unplugged.

Haven't had a single issue.
