I have never seen a Evo VII here but I have seen a Evo VI that is left handed up in the Appleton area. The guy that owns it is really rich so he has like Ferrari and some other cars. I saw a for sale sign on it awhile back.

So there are a couple legal ones out there, of course none USDM spec.

Well, the car was supposedly brought from the US over here in 2001, but it was a 2002 model. And he claims they had it shipped by mitsubishi themselves, not any kind of shipping, the dealers shipped it here from a special order from the sheikh.

So according to what you are saying, i could be right about it coming from the US, but your trying to tell me that there is NO WAY its a US spec?

Correct, there is no way it is US-Spec or USDM because they were never imported by Mitsubishi to be sold to the public. There were individuals who paid hefty prices to have them imported and registered but NOT by Mitsubishi. I don;t know about Mitsu sending any 7's to California for testing, doesn't make sense to me but I guess there could be a very small chance that's where the car came from.

As many have said the evo only came to the US as the 8 and later versions. Evo 7's are hard to come by but not impossible. I bought mine from a guy in the Navy who brought it back from Japan. My advice is to keep looking and hope to get lucky. Be smart about it but jump on the opportunity when it presents itself.

Coupla things,
First it surely is NOT a JDM spec Evo7 as these had the speedo in KM's only, no MPH.
Secondly, the 2001 JDM spec came with the Tarmac/Gravel/Snow ACD settings.
Thirdly, with many genuine Evo 7's to be had outta Japan, why would you want one with any kinda questionable history? This is assuming of course that you can import and license one!

There is no way im driving a right side driven car... i cant imagine shifting with the left hand lol. And yea i forgot that in europe there are alot of coutries with left hand drive. Meaning the only way i can import one would be from europe.

Anyway, i just offered the guy 16.4k for it, if he accpets it, we agreed that we would take it to a garage for a full check up to see that everything is working okay. If so, then i will buy it.

i'm sure that the car will be working okay. it was the legit check for a 7 you were asking for right? without substantiating evidence, we might not know. So far, all the things you've pointed out make it to be one great frankenstein of a car. i'd call it an Evo 7.8 version 9, and more rare than a 6.5 TME.

Remember a sheik has power and money and can easily create "history" on the car.

before MMNA or mitsubishi north america began importing evo8s, a company by the name of evolution imports started importing the current 2001-2002 evolution VII which were LHD and brought several of them, maybe 20-40 cars but since they were just a start-up company, they were not able to make it US street legal. So, those who pre-ordered these vehicles were SOL. I guess, some of it made it or were sold worldwide because to make it DOT legal, it had to pass to several testing, etc. So, that vehicle has no VIN(since not street legal) but can be legitimately purchased from the US. They are actually better than the evo 8 because it has ACD and AYC already in place. a good buy I would say. at least he kept the evoVII front. and yes it is not US spec, it is way better than US spec. that is the 1st CT9A body style(cedia) that was used in rallies by tommie makinen although he did not win.
