Extended Warranty for Evo.
Extended Warranty for Evo.
Hey guys, I plan on buying a 2003 Tarmac Black Evo at the end of the year and I've been considering getting an extended warranty.
I test drove the car and loved how much power it had, so I dont intend on ever modding the engine of my car (also because im scared i'll ruin something because I have zero experience with modding).
Anyways, do you guys know the price of an extended warranty?
Do they come in different plans? like.. 5years/60k miles or 7years/100k miles.?
Thanks

I wouldn't bother after what I've gone through with mitsubishi they don't care about any evo owner regardless of who it is they all assume high powered car your going to race/abuse it so theirs not point of buying anything but the one they give you.
well i have been looking at getting a EVO too and i am going to do the same thing get the 100k 7 year bumper to bumper. i am sorry to hear you are haven so much problems with your dealerships the one in bay city seems really cool the owner runs a EVO in SCCA so he knows what the car is like to drive hard and what should brake if anything but that is just my 2 cents. i want a car i can run in the snow and drive hard i know it is not going to be as fast as my honda with out lots of money but i want one car i can jump in every day and know it is going to start and get me to class. but yet be a blast to drive.
Don't do it. If you have Geico, they offer a mechanical breakdown coverage, you pay on the fly (every 6 months to renew). Covers more than the factory warranty too. I pay $57 every 6 months for this added coverage and I can renew it up to 7years. As others have said, getting Mitsu to perform warranty work is quite a sweating task to do.
neonsalamander,
I had an extended warranty on my 1997 Eclipse GS-T and had no problems with it. I used it a few times and I think, if I added up the repair bills, it probably paid for itself 3 or 4 times over. Mitsu parts are expensive! The secret is to make sure the dealer will take payment from your warranty company and that they pre-approve the work with the warranty company. The contracts are fairly specific as to what is covered, so read up before you go in.
I purchased an extended 7year/100k bumper to bumper warrant with my Evo. I’m very unlike to mod the car so it seemed like a good idea. I made the purchase at the time I was putting the financing together. It is usually the finance guy, not the salesman, who does the warranty stuff. I got mine for $1000, the price is negotiable. You can also find extended warranties that you can buy after the date of purchase. I think you can buy them up until the time your factory warranty runs out.
One thing to remember, extended warranties are usually transferable. So if you sell the car, you can sell the warranty with it! Makes selling a high maintenance turbo car MUCH easier. I sold my Eclipse after 3 days on Autotrader.com and the people said the warranty was an important part of the sale. If you are not satisfied with the warranty you can usually cancel it and they will refund a prorated part of the cost.
Best wishes,

I'm going to the dealer this week to see if I can get my money back for the extended warranty because I never used it and with all the horror stories I've heard from fellow EVO owners, that extended warranty is not worth more than the paper it's written on.
