Cool sound

heres my 2 cents! Get 4 jack stands and a buddy(preferably that has a low body weight), jack the car up securely at all 4 corners, have your buddy start the car and put it in gear and accelerate up to aroun 30 or so. Lay on the ground not under the car but next to it for your own safety and look under the car as he accelerates it to see and hear exactly where the noise is coming from and to look for any excessive vibrations as well!! Why??
I had a similar noise and quite noticeable vibration in my EVO 3 and thought it was drive shaft bearing, or inboard joint or evn gearbox issues. It was around 3000 RPM, the gear did not matter, but it dissapeared when i drove it hard.
But after doing this i realised it was coming from my rear diff!
I changed the Oil (using the correct gauge fluid) and the noise then became intermittent sometimes and sometimes not, after driving for about 3 to 5 days the noise finally went away!!

yea that might be what i have to do.. however mine is rpm independent - doesn't matter if im in gear or coasting in neutral, and i bet if i turned the car off while coasting at 25mph it would still make the noise
