I am currently considering some type of boost controller for a 2006 evo mr, but after speaking to two tuners and reading several posts on evo m, I am confused about the benefits and disadvantages of a mbc, ebc, or a "3port".
The posts on evom seem to indicate that an ebc is harder to tune, but once tuned correctly, it does not need adjustments. The posts also indicate that the mbc is easier to tune, but may need adjustments based on weather. The tuners i spoke to claimed that the mbc is both easier to tune and does not require any adjustments afterwards.
So, to anyone that truly understands these (not hearsay or just repeating what you have seen on a posts) help me understand what are the pro's and con's for the ebc versus mbc. And also what is the difference between an ebc and a "3port".

When people comment on how easy it is i guess its that persons definition of easy. I had a Greddy profec on my 951 which it was nice but a pain to set up. I later switched to a hallman and loved that and it held boost rock solid even in drastic temperature changes.
cold weather cranks up boost alittle...mbc has to be turned down so as not to overboost, and back up when it gets warm...ebc auto adjust but more expensive and more to go complex in design (more parts more can go wrong)...either way works...just what your comfortable with
STM installed a hallman pro rx on my car, was skeptical at first about it cause i had a turbosmart mbc once n it was horrible jumped boost levels alot but i havent gone out to fix my hallman once yet and the temp has been 20 at night n 65 in the day.. If you need a hallman i have a pro rx for sale ..
I have an AEM 3 port solenoid that is controlled by the AEM ECU. I can tell you first hand that it absolutely needs retuned for weather changes, and if you don't know what you are doing, it can be a major PITA to get it right. If I were you, I'd stick with a manual.
Conceptually, there really is no difference between the "3 port solenoids" and the EBC's. They are both computer controlled solenoid valves that control boost. When someone mentions a "3 port" they are usually referring to the valve itself that will be controlled with an engine ECU. The EBC's are basically an all in one deal where the controller controls the valve. The EBC's IMO are easier to set up of the two. But again, I'd go with a manual.

MBC would be noticeable, not a 3-port though.
I'm loving my Grimmspeed 3-port, I have exactly the boost curve I want and the ECU can adjust WGDC based on IAC, so once you get it dialed in you don't need to touch it anymore.
That being said, it does take more work than an MBC to tune. Can't comment on an EBC as I've never had one.

MBC = Easy to install, cheaper, but you will have to adjust it whenever the air density changes.
EBC = not familiar with thier installation ease, lil more expensive (depends on the model/brand), but it will help you spool faster as the pressure solenoid actuates based on the preset pressure signal. Unlike the mbc where a slight signal could apply a force to the MBC spring and leak some air effecting ur wga.
Overall, I think they all need to be adjusted due to the weather condition changes, however, i was told that the new HKS unit has a feature in which it helps u compensate for the density variation.

have to admit that iam not familiar with the bleed type! how does it deliver the signal to the wga all at once or doe sit ramp it up?
ex. if i set it up at 24psi, would the wga see a 24psi signal all at once, or would the "bleeding" mbc ramp up?
