Plastic Undercarriage - Regarding Radiator Flush

Tried to pull off the plastic undercarriage to do a radiator flush. Lots of plastic screws that simply do not want to come out. This is on a 05 Evo 8 ... I broke a couple of the damn things getting them out. Anyway released the plug and the radiator fluid is draining in the garage right now but I'm not sure what to do about the screws I broke. Is this something I can buy from Mitsu parts? Should I zip tie the 2 plastic sides together for the time being?

dont even run it anymore, most people dont, makes working on the car not fun when you drop tools and get set back trying to find them. in the process of getting an aluminum undertray myself.

That's cool, that thing is the biggest PITA I've dealt with. Thanks for the info!

I'm thinking about taking the whole thing off.

You can purchase them at your local autozone or shucks aka o"reily. I took mines of as well, so much easier to work on the evo.

I remember when I first had my evo I would actually take the whole undertray apart then took the time to put it back together lol sucha waste of time now that I think of it. Just get rid of the whole piece and sell it for like $30.00

Stop being lazy, there is functionality with the brake ducts and aerodynamics. The trick to the clips is to get a panel popping tool and a screw driver. Put a little tension on the flat part while turning the screw portion. They will come out just like screws at that point. Don't start cutting corners like everyone else.

Ah ok, that is what I'm missing. I didn't know why some of the screws were coming out of there so easily and other were not.

I'm afraid I've made quite a mess of a few of them. Either the plastic screw is stripped or the clip is bent. I think I saw someone else say you can buy more at Autozone and there is one right around the corner.

I told my wife about my grand unified theory on undertray removal and her reaction was the same as yours (don't cut corners), LOL.

Thanks for all the replies guys ... this is the first time I've done a radiator flush and it was definitely a learning experience for me. I used the howto from Evoryder's post on this board.

Ok ... flush is done. I used 2 gallons of distilled water as we have hard water in Dallas. I put the plastic undertray back. That was a beatdown and of course I put my head in a puddle of coolant.

For the radiator drain plug I highly recommend a ratcheting wrench in 10mm. Between the lower intercooler pipe and the other side of the plastic tray there is just not enough room to turn a wrench down there. May be less of an issue if the undertray is fully removed.

When I changed my licp, I took off the tray under 5 minutes. It's pretty simple. You just have to be patient and go easy on the screws. If you force it too much, it'll just spin or go back into the rivet. Btw, the tray keeps your engine bay cleaner too.
