I'm at mechanic #4 already today. First two pushed my appointment back until too late this evening, and the third refused to perform a compression check on a low mileage car that was in such good shape. Shop #4 is going over the whole car right now.

I've put 30 miles on the car already today and nothing jumps out at me as being out of place. Depending on the compression test results I could be an evo owner in a few hours.
Now that's what I call going above and beyond when it comes to EVO shopping. Exactly the thing I plan to do once I'm back in the market, don't plan on making the same mistakes twice. Good luck with your purchase.

Congrats, it is definitely a good idea to go over an Evo in and out before buying one. Although these cars are reliable and long lasting machines, sometimes previous owners did not care for them the way that we would.

Good going on getting the car checked out. Like you I had to try at multiple shops before I got things taken care of. Seems like a lot of work for something that should be simple but in the end the effort is worth it. Good luck with your purchase!

today a dent in a fender or door can cost $1200, so even though it was reported ($500+) doesnt mean it was crushed like an accordion

always good to check anyway like you are doing... hope everything on the car is performing well... keep us updated!

Compression test checked out, and we finally found where the accident damage occurred. The first body shop declared that it had never been in an accident after 15 minutes of scouring the car. The guy at the second body shop took it as a challenge to find where the repairs were made, and finally found some evidence that the front right door and the panel in front of it had been dented in and repaired. He was impressed with the quality of the repairs and assured me there was no frame damage at all, so I was convinced.

Car is sitting my garage right now. It got fairly dirty on the way back from the dealer (60 miles away) so I'll have to clean it up before pics. Unfortunately, I won't have any time to touch the car again until next Wednesday at best. I did find some time this evening to dig deeper into the car and it's surprisingly stock save for the intake. I even found the oil change reminder sticker from the previous owner's last oil change and it wasn't too long ago. So far so good!

I'm afraid to buy cars with rebuilt/salvage titles, as who knows how small or big the accident was. Just my 2cents! Good luck with your EVO.

Congrats, I always like running into a shop that knows what they are doing and take the time to get the job done right. On the other hand I hate going to shops for inspections and they barely look at the car and say it is good to go.

Nice purchase again and congrats on the Evo!

As stated previously the car has a clean title and he found a minor accident on the carfax/carproof. Just because a vehicle had an accident does not mean it is a salvage/rebuilt. A broken headlight reported can be considered an accident.

And with the positive results from the thorough inspections it sounds like it's solid as a rock, I wouldn't have a problem buying a car like this as long as the price was right.
