Trunk lid wont stay open

Just purchased an Evo 8 and the trunk lid wont stay open. Is there something I need to check or replace so it stays up? I see there are 2 bars running from side to side and a small plastic clip hooked to one of them but dont know what top do with it. Thanks for the help

hey... i'm from k3/bradley myself... welcome to the family... i'm in the army so i'm stationed abroad but i live off of north street...

anyway... what do you mean it wont stay open... with the stock wing mine would fall all the way closed but not latch... now i have a lip spoiler instead and its sprung to high to let it go down more then half way without springing back up... kind of annoying...

anyway... my point was... it might be the weight of the wing

Yeah the problem is if I am on any kind of incline at all (driveway) with the car not being level the trunk will not stay open by itself, it is a pain in the a??. I realize the wing is heavy but you would think Mitsubishi would have realized this when they designed the trunk lid and made the proper adjustments for this.

sounds like the previous owner had the wing off at some point. what probably happend is that they took one of the torsion bars in the trunk off and installed it with less twist so it is weaker. i had to do this when i removed my wing, other wise when i'd pull the truck release the truck would fly up with too much force without the weight of the wing on it.

The car at one point did have a carbon fiber trunk on it with no wing. There is a torsion bar hooked to each hinge, so there are 2 on there. What do I need to do to correct this problem.

you need to find a picture of the bars hooked up right so you can reinstall them correctly. I would take a pic of mine for you but they are not installed right. i am too lazy to change it back because it doesn't bother me too much, it is a pain to twist those bars and hook them up. it takes a pry bar and some luck. maybe someone on here knows a trick to do it. i'm pretty sure the bars should criss cross one another

^ur link doesn't provide any install directions just another forum asking the same question.

Not tryin to jack ur thread but is there anyway to make them not as strong and get some of the tension off? Maybe uninstall one of the bars? I ask cause I installed a carbon fiber trunk and went to open the gas door grabbed the wrong lever and my trunk about came through the back window. I honestly thought I snapped the trunk in half or that it ripped bolts out but luckily it did no harm and I would like to avoid this in the future.

I found that I am missing one of the torsion bars (RH) They must have taken it off when they had the wingless carbon fiber trunk on. My only question now is where do I get the special tool at or is there something else you can use in place of it?
