GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!

i fixed my problem. the culprit was the EGR vacumm solendoid. took it out, put a new one in and right away the car sounded better. let it idle for 10 minutes and it sounds great.

it's a pain in the **** to get to but it can totally be done. took me roughly 45 minutes to do. got it all from the top of the car. you can see it but you can't see the bolt. you have to pretty much find the bold by feel and do it that way. 2 10mm bolts. disconnect 3 vacuum hose and a wiring harness. goddam im pretty happy right now.

for anyone still having that problem, check your EGR solenoid.

yeah good call.

i sorta had a feeling that it was but because of the location and cost of the solenoid, i wanted to try something easier and cheaper. im happy now...i get to drive my car again......after replacing the brakes of course.

I've been following this thread for a while now because ! had the same symptom describe in the title "Very weird idle!" I pick up the part form the dealer and I finally had a chance to replace my EGR vacuum solenoid after work. I took my normal route home and the weird idle would happen just before i get home, but after today my idle is perfect it did not drop in rpm and the car runs perfect.

And my fixes justa keep ona rollin' !!!!!!!!!

Go me, Go me, Go me.......

Seriously though, I literally have about 15 hours of trouble shooting this problem to find the fix LOL

I'm so glad that it's a common fix that everyone can benefit from. I don't feel like it was a waste of time now.

Did you have a cel this last time when it was the egr solenoid? Im in the same boat right now and I have no cel I have an egr block off plate on the way hoping it fixes my woes. If it is the egr solenoid blocking off the valve would solve the issue correct?

Hey, would you mind writing up a little on this? Perhaps, you can include some pictures. My Evo has been parked in the driveway for quite some time now.

Just recently, the idle got worse and the idle became erratic. Now, the idle doesn't fluctuate as quickly (like a cammed out Evo), but it fluctuates slower and the car would start revving up to about 4k RPM and drop continuously.

Thanks, rhd-jon.

I had a CEL for a while and one day, it disappeared. I was going to get the car checked out eventually. I still don't have a CEL.

Figured I'd join the thread, since I'm also having idle issues. My AFR will be proper while the car is warming up, but once it's up to temp, the idle will drop down a bit, and AFR will go really lean, approx 22, then after a few secs of stumbling it'll rev up a bit and go to 12.

I changed my plugs, did the EGR bypass, cleaned my MAF, cleaned the ICV, nothing worked I'm suspecting maybe the ICV is broken (I'm going to check the connector with a multimeter this weekend), but my brother is telling me it's the tune.

I'll take a video this week.

Could be that u need a tune.
Yesterday on my way to Ct to see a homie and 20 mins into the ride
my cell went on lucky that i found a autozone to check the cell. It also
happen again in Ct lol p0300 random misfire. I just orderd some new
spark plug wires from mitsubishi car has 85,000 and have the same wires
since day 1. Hopefully that helps if not i'll just wait till i go tune it.

before i took my car to the dealer my car idled fine, when i got it back today it started to idle rough. It still hovers at 900rpm when im sitting but just sounds loopy and the smell from the exhaust dosent smell normal. All i have is a Catback and injen lower intercooler/intake piping.
Here is a video of how it sounds, would sound sexy if their wasent a problem involved.
