Evo 9 SE Tranny Help!!
Evo 9 SE Tranny Help!!
Hey guys I i've been having problems with my tranny i own a 2006 evo ix se 5 speed and my 5th gear grinds. If I put the 5th gear in softly it doesnt grind . I had everything changed on the tranny fluids and transfer cas and it still grinds. Any thoughts Or ideas?
REBUILD, and do it now, mine started to grind TWO WEEKS after i bought my damn car, it gradually got worse and ended up costing me 1k more to get rebuilt than if i would have just taken it in when it first started, i ended up having to buy new gears bc i was shifting into 5th without syncros
I had the same problem, its your 5th gear synchro, you're going to have to take the entire tranny apart to replace a $50 piece. If you're evo isn't modded you may be able to get the dealership to replace it for free depending on the mileage as its a known problem for evos, but that depends on the dealership a lot, some are cool and willing to help, others are pretty strict and try to get out of anything they can.
If your evo IS modded you're looking at 14-18 labor hours if you get a shop to take apart your tranny, that will run you around $1500 at a tuning shop, $1800 at a dealership, or $1000 at a smaller garage, depending on what you have in your immediate area. You have 3 options, you can take it and have someone else fix it (above prices), you an do it yourself (wouldn't reccomend unless you have experience with trannys, or you can be very light on 5th gear especially when shifting into it at higher rpms (i've been taking it easy for the last month while getting the money together for the fix).
I personally run at higher rpms a lot, so I ended up ordering a bushwacker stage1 trans upgrade from Buscher and am going to be having Modified KC install it later this month since I will be taking it down there for a tune anyway.
-hope this was helpful, good luck bro

or if you are REALLY good at working on your car, you could take the trans out yourself (making sure to bag and tag all the bolts, take your time and download the shop manual. you will save yourself 1k. i took out my own trans and installed it myself. it was a month turnaround to get my trans back but it was well worth the wait and im not sorry i bought a shep trans
