36,000 miles on original clutch?
Today i went to my local dealer to pick up an oli filter and spoke with the service manager about clutch install pricing. I don't need one yet but just curious about their prices.
The manager quoted me, hold on, $1,900 for a new OEM and install. I almost lost it. He said about 400 for the parts and the rest labor. He also went on to tell me they not only remove the subframe, but also hoist the engine to do the install? I know about the subframe but engine hoist? Whatever, told him they will never touch my car. Also said they will not install an aftermarket if I brought it down. On a positive note, he said an aftermarket will not necessarily void my drivetrain, depending on what is damaged.
He went on to tell me a customer in town has 36,000 miles on his clutch and still going. I don't know who it is and if they are a member here, but that sounds amazing if true. Anyway, I called a local tuner that Alex (Vegasboy) gave me. He quoted me 500 to do the clutch and about 5 hours. He said he did about 4 evos already. Sounds good to me. He also recommended the ACT setup. Better start saving this year.

I have 21,000 miles on my stock clutch and it still grabs strong. So it's not entirely impossible that someone hit 36,000. I did however have the clutch line pill removed and replaced the factory rubber clutch line with a ss. Clutch does not slip like it did before. That could be the reason.

That pill allows the clutch to slip too much and, you are right, the clutch burns out too quickly. I figured that removing the pill would serve the same purpose as replacing the stock clutch with one with more clamping force. The stock clutch, as far as I could figure out, will only slip if you drop the clutch at relatively high rpms. With the pill removed it will grab hard. Hopefully I can reach 36,000 miles too because the price to install a new one is CRAZY!

hate to get off topic but while downshifting in every gear today, i heard a loud WHOOOOOOA kind of sound coming from the tranny. is that a sign of clutch wear because i have about 5,000 miles and have launched my car once...it's weird because it happened the day i installed my short shifter, coincidence?
if you bring to my dealer in San Diego, we'll make worth the drive just to do it here. it will cost you here $1056.41. just ask for dante webster in service and tell him you saw it here on this site.

Hey INNOVATIVE, not to be negative but I think I read a while back that Mitsu is no longer covering cluthes. Although my clutch has lasted a while it seems like several people got a "bad batch" of clutches. Someone started a clutch pole a while back and I can't remember the outcome.
I hope everything works out INNOVATIVE.

I don't need a clutch right now. It's perfect with only 3000 miles so far. No abuse and launches. I'm just annoyed by the dealer's practices. In fact, here in Las Vegas there are 3 Mitsu dealers and they are all the same owners. They have a monopoly on dealer service pricing.
Thanks Mitsupwr. I used to live in SD and frequently return for weekends. I will be worth the 4 hr drive to SD if my other contact doesn't pan out. But the rate I'm going (3000 miles since august), i won't be needing a clutch this year if I take it easy.

I have 21K miles without removing the pill or replacing the line and the clutch is still working fine. Yes, I do a lot of highway driving back and forth to work (the car is only 6 1/2 months old), but I still drive my car the way it's meant to be driven. I went into the dealership to get an oil change two weeks ago and the mechanics came out and said it was nice to see someone actually driving their EVO.
