Thanks for the tips. Right now the deal in Maryland is the only non-local one that makes sense. Although the idea of driving cross country in the Evo is appealing, the idea of making the $ to pay it off is more so.

You should try calling either Sunrise Mitsubishi, Smithtown Mitsubishi or Riverhead Mitsubishi. All these dealers are on Long Island. Riverhead Mitsu has a red EVO which I drove briefly back in Sept. that they have had since July or August. Back in Sept / Oct Smithtown Mitsu had about 10 EVO's and after speaking with the Internet Mgr he came down to $28,800 or so. I would think if either of these dealers had any 2003 EVO's left they might be willing to let them go for Invoice LESS about $600-$700 in holdback.

Re: Where are these sub-$28K dealers?????????

Okay, you want the real deal, here it is. I am a GSM of a dealership and an EVO owner. I bought mine shortly after they entered the market when they were putting a premium on them. I was upfront with dealer about my occupation and told them I would pay $1000 over invoice.

INVOICE: On my 2003 EVO w/spoiler & sunroof = $28860
Invoice can vary based on the difference in destination charges.

Right now I could buy one @ invoice, and you can also get $1000 owner loyalty. So do the math: $28860 - $1000 = $27860
If you can live without the spoiler you're going to be closer to $28000 to start.

BTW- I saw some genius tell everyone in your last thread that holdback was 2% of MSRP. Actually it is much closer to 3% of invoice. So on a vehicle with an invoice of $28000 HB= $840 approximately. Now if you can convince a dealer to give up their holdback too, you need to sell cars for a living.

Anyway, many of you claim Evo's are going for 28K and even less. So tell me - where are these dealers? Give me a name and the salesperson you dealt with. Any in the Tri-state area around NYC?

All this theoretical talk is fine but someone give me the name of what dealer you bought a new Evo from for 28K or less.

Today I offered the dealership here 28K. Told them I was willing to show up w/ a check tonight. Got a real condescending attitude from the sales mgr. "Didn't I tell you I wouldn't take less than invoice? I gotta pay for all these nice comfortable chairs you sit in when you come here..." What an *******.

I asked him to propose another number and he said MSRP. This was after saying he wanted an offer above invoice (28,965 he says), which I interpreted as something in the low 29's

Fortunately I got a customer service call tonight from the dealership asking how I enjoyed my recent visit. So I told them.

Anyway, if this is any indication, I'm not so sure I even want to deal w/ Mitsu anymore. I went to BMW dealership to test drive a 325xi and they acted a lot more professionally. Besides, I can get free maintainence over the course of the lease. Sure I won't go as fast, but I'll save $ on tickets and they can actually give a coherent answer about how good the car is in snow.

In any case, those of you who so knowingly talk about under-28K Evos -give me a name!!! PM me if you like.
Thanks

$29200 with sunroof and spoiler, bought during the middle of last year. I think the bigger thing is the interest rate if you are gonna finance it. I financed half of the car at 4.99%, and it was negotiated before I bought the car.

Thank you for your incredibly useful posts. In case you hadn't noticed, this is a forum for discussing the car, which includes the buying process. If you have nothing to contribute, why post?

Question

What is your time worth? A person making $50K a year makes roughly $25 an hour. Every day you spend driving to and talking to dealers is $200. You could be driving an Evo right now instead of nickel and diming and considering crossing the state for less than $1000.

I called three dealers and I got mine for $29500. Maybe I could've gotten it for less, but I can still sleep at night knowing the price I paid.

there is alot of BS goin around on this board...

no way in hell you'll get on for sub 28k OTD for a NEW Evo

you can probably get a steal at invoice, but with TTT, you're looking at 28-29k total.

good luck on your purchase

HALLELUJAH! A voice of wisdom. I've had people work with me and leave and then go to a competitor and buy there saving less than $100. When you figure out the time they spent saving that $100 and the hassles they went through repeating a lot of the work we'd already done their net savings was nothing.

Unfortunately, too many people are too stupid to understand that and take a fair deal from the first guy who is also the one who does most of the work for them.

Dude, there only has to be one to disprove the statement 'no way in hell you'll get on for sub 28k OTD for a NEW Evo'.

Missed the Logic 101 class, did we?
