Apparently the "new" Lancer EVO WRC car will be making an apearance at the Finland rally. It may be based on the EVO 8. So tune in to speedvison if you want to get a look.

From what I've heard, the car will just be an "upgrade" from the current WRC, in order to be more competitive in the Championship. It should look similar to the current one.


P.S. What does IIX mean?

from what I've seen, the VIII shouldn't be much different than the VII mechanically, only minor front fascia work.

 

'IIX' is one way of writing '8' in Roman numbers. The other excepted way is 'VIII'.

 

According to the Speed Channel WRC coverage it is EVO VIII.

 

The WRC is at 11 PM Pacific on Speed Channel! So watch for that EVO!

Evo 8! I wouldn't expect much diff in the looks department...but we may see some of these bumper changes the rumors have been talkin about. Maybe Rally XS the night before the rally starts will have some info about it.

Doesn't the car have to be in production and sold on the streets first, before it can be used in WRC? From what I understand the new car in Finland is a step 2 Evo VII. The WRC car based on the Evo VIII won't be seen until next year. That's how I understand it.

 

Again, according to the Speed Channel WRC coverage the commentator said "EVO VIII" for the rally in FInland, not to say that SC have not been wrong before. The rules of production cars in the WRC are ambigious at best. Think about it, not all cars in the WRC are sold with AWD on the street (not to mention turbos). If I remember correctly, the 206 (or is it 306?) had to be lengthened to fit the minimum WRC size requirement. One way to know for sure, watch the Rally of Finland. If not a VIII, at least a great rally.
