Might get my EVO on Sunday

Well, I think I'm going to go in this weekend and trade in my 2000 Z28 for my EVO.

I can't decide on a damn color!!! Black or white??

Also, how did you guys break your cars in? Synthetic or no?

I want to change the oil right away and debating if I should just have synthetic from day 1.

Such issues are so trival yet so encompassing!

Get White.

The black is nice but black gets dirty really easily and the crappy Mitsu paint will chip easily and the black car will have chips spots all over it.

Excellent idea! The Evo is a sweet handling machine. It will be a big contrast to the F-Body. But I would think twice if you're into drag racing...I'm not convinced the Evo can handle the drivetrain abuse.

That's a tough one. I went with silver because I like how the light plays on it (not a huge fan of solid colors). Between black and white I would probably go with white becuase of how nicely the carbon fiber spoiler, hood vent, and front grilles contrast against it. With black, those unique features sort of blend in too much for my taste. Plus, I don't like how the clear taillights stand out so much on black. It's like that's all you see when you look at the back of the Evo. The white is more balanced IMHO.

There's a huge debate about this: dino juice vs. synthetic oil and gentle vs. hard break-in. Both sides make a nice argument. I personally went with synthetic oil and a gentle, long break-in period because that makes sense to me. I plan to keep mine for a very long time (this was my dream car) so the benefits of synthetic and taking it easy will hopefully pay dividends in the long run.

My Evo makes great power, so I don't feel I missed out on anything by not thrashing it or by filling up with regular oil.

That is a tough decision. My dealership had all the colors, I think I changed my mind three or four times. I ended up with white, and I love it. As far as syn or not, I left it in and did a gentle break in. I think the majority will agree.

but to be 100% honest i think i would get the white.

Agreed!
I also changed my mind twice on the color. I ended up taking the one that came to the dealership first - I was a very early purchaser!!

Some thoughts with oil - leave it, gentle through 600 miles.

i got a silver one, always looks clean less maintenece

stay with synthetics, thats what mits engineers recomend and they prob know what they are talking about (i hope).

As for break in. i have freinds that say a hard break in makes the car a little faster but will not last as long as a true baby break in. for me it was a baby break in i will make my car faster with mods . i would go with mits break in procedures.

baby break in no problems as of yet and the ccar stop burning oils as of my last oil change at 7500 miles. at 9000 miles now no oil burned.

black or white is the choice white all the way, dark colors need lots of maintenence. on the other hand evo looks insane in black.

good luck with the evo, and welcome to the party

I plan on doing a moderate break in. I will keep it below the suggested rpm limit about 98% of the time but may run it up an extra 1k or so every now and then. No redline bursts or anything but a little extra now and then doesn't hurt anything I don't think. My color coin has red and silver on it's two sides. Red because it's the official rally car color and looks sharp and silver because it just looks sharp period and stays clean looking longest. Congrats on the new Evo and good luck with your color choice... go at least best 3 of 5 with your coin flipping.

I say white one! On the white one you can see all the nice curves and lines much better.
