I figured I post this up to see if anyone has experienced this type of failure.
I purchased this evo8 transfer case from EVOM member "Tc17". He said it had 15k miles on it and was in good workings condition. After hearing it only had 15k miles and in good condition I purchased it from him and installed it...oem diaqueen fluid. I then let the car idle for a good 15minutes, shortly after I go about 2miles down the street cruising at about 20mph(check over car... good), get on the highway at about 60mph cruising(stop at the gas station 4miles down the street, cars still good), I hop back on the highway cruising at 60mph and heard a clicking/clunk noise(pull over on the side of the road right when I hear that)..... look under the car and see this:

I was shocked to find this and when I got.the car home I find out this:

As you look at the pic you see that the bolts that hold the viscous backed out and shattered the case and damages everything inside.
Just a reminder that this transfer case was properly installed and wasn't launched or anything. This shows that the diff/viscous wasn't properly torqued and obviously defective, which the seller said it was in good working condition.

Me and the seller are currently disputing it with PayPal.
I wouldnt be disputing if the tcase actually blow up from launching, driving abuse, or just not installation error but that is not the case. The diff bolts were defective / improperly torqued down which caused this failure.

I have a dream that someday people will stop buying parts over the internet from private parties and then being surprised when they blow up.
I'm not trying to rag on you and it sucks that this happened, but really never EVER believe someone over the internet until you verify it. That t-case (if you still insisted on buying it) should have gone to a guy or shop who you trust and been looked over first thing....it's already out of the car why not crack it open? Getting it in and out is what takes 4 hours, not opening the case.
The only time a internet deal is a good one is #1 its obviously in good shape and pictures can verify that. (Kinda hard to hide damage on downpipes etc). #2 it is so insanely under-priced that even if there was someone wrong it wouldn't matter, (i.e. a full ix long block I got for $250, intake to oil pan). Anything that doesn't fall into #1 or #2 is rolling the dice and should be inspected by a competent individual to verify the seller's claims.
Again, sorry for your bad t-case, good luck getting your money back and I hope at the very least people see this post and learn from your mistake.
I learned this lesson the hard way also, bought a t-5 mustang transmission and thankfully my mechanic friend noticed it leaking and pointed it out, we tore it down and whomever had rebuilt it last (seller's brother, who has been "doing this forever" as the seller told me) had used the wrong kind of sealant so that case leaked, no to mention it was missing a few bolts, and a few were even stripped out. You couldn't tell anything was wrong from the pictures and I have since learned my lesson.

My other tcase that had 146k lasted from launch after launch, 11.8@122 passes with 1.7 60fts, countless pulls, etc etc. Then you tell me this happens from less than 15miles of just cruising? Negative, it doesn't add up.
I really don't see why I wouldn't get refunded the money. The seller "Tc17" should really just refund the money without PayPal getting involved, but it is what it is.

Did you take apart the tcase in your evo when you bought it to inspect/torque the bolts down? Did you pull off the oil pan to inspect the bearings when you bought it? My point is that the tcase had 15k miles and was in good condition which shouldn't need to be torn apart and reassembled to make sure everything is good. To add to what you said.... the tcase was at a "shop sponsor" of the sseller, so it should have been good to go. The tcase was listed in "good working condition".
