Police vs. muffler
Police vs. muffler
I finally got my evo back from AMS and now the police are being relentless. They say the muffler is too loud and not street legal. Does anyone else have a similar problem? The car is so perfect the way it is. I was dino at 339hp. Any ideas how to quite down the car with out hurting performance?

Can buy a silentser but I lived in Washington and anything but stock muffler and or exhaust is illegal:-(. I have herd o people painting the nice chrome black just so it don't draw attention to it but I have got two tickets already and pulled over twenty times and mine isn't that loud. There just dicks and want your money. Good luck with that one.

I hate when cops harass people about this. I wonder how many Harley's they've pulled over? Hint hint.... it's a trick question.
Is the law a decible threshold? Get it tested?
Silencer in the tip, adding another muffler, or changing the muffler are really your only options.
Another route is exhaust cutout with a different exhaust setup.

On a purely personal note. my car is relatively quiet. At least by Evo standards. It's quiet, because I like to go fast. As our cars develop the bulk of their power at the top of the revband, gotta (errr...) rev the suckers. As such, how can the concept of max power even enter the equation, then the amplitude of the exhaust prevents one from exploring the range of the car?

I live in Chicago and never get hassled for mine (Catless AMS/ Vibrant TBE) . Chicago cops usually have "better things" to do than pull someone over for a loud exhaust.

also by federal law, muffler noise shouldn't be louder then 92dlb on car and 115dlb on motorcycles, so if they pull you over again tell them to check the dlb with there mics to prove to them its legal just like what they would do for tinted window
