Smile If anybody cares I changed my mind?

I was going to purchase a sti because of the accd and I love the inside of the car. But Subaru messed up big time with that damn Electronic Throttle Crap. I want a six speed badly but im sure the JDM EVO will get the kinks out of the tranny and Im sure ill be able to swap out my tranny. Anyways I fell in love with the tunning capabilities of the evo and i found out that the 4G63 has changed I always thought it was the same. ill be purchasing in june or july.

why not? Your gonna need it in the future. I do that with all my cars. When I first got my Si I purchased hondata about 6 months later. My first engine mod and I got a good 11 hp out of a stock engine and i had a even better af ratio. So I think tunning is the key. Future mods include hks cams and maybe a turbo upgrade in the way future.

You are getting the car in June or July and your already planning mods.......

Talk to many of the Evo owners on here and they will agree that a standalone is overkill unless you plan on insane levels of horsepower. HKS cams are not going to need a stand alone. Personally Id spend my money on finding the easy horsepower, but whatever you decide good luck.....

Hey tristar..

When your car is 5 months away, it's easy to spend the money on less useful mods earlier!!

No offense leopoldo, but doing the basics before a stand alone is always your best bet..tristar knows his ****.

Especially now, since the decision to buy the right or wrong mods won't be a mistake seen in "hindsight".

Ya got some time to research the right paths!!

Check this thread started by a member way back..

Upgrade Path

Enjoy your new car!

Uh, your Si was not a turbo. There are tons of horsepower available on a stock ECU and turbo tweaks. You either have bigger dreams than smarts or more money than smarts.

my EG (92 Hatch) was turboed B18B T3/T4 10 Psi hut I got some good gains with hondata. I know I know Mitsubishi's are different but Im just going on what I know . Fuel managment is the key ....actually tunning is the key.

dude for the 1500 that you'll spend on the aem and unless your a tuning genious you'll spend a lot more to get it set up properly you could get so much more power. 1500 for the aem which might give you 20 hp. or 1500 for intake, turbo-back exhaust and mbc which should put you close to 300 whp. It's not even a comparison in my mind...most of the guys on here have many mods but only a few have a stand-alone. I'm not planning on getting a stand alone until after my turbo upgrade *hopefully soon*, plus if you get the stand alone as your first mod, there is a lot of tweaking to be done with each mod to keep the car running right. IMO, stand alone should be close to last

I am curious... Could you please explain what you find "messed up" with the DBW? It is actually a great system with excellent throttle response. Most of the time when I hear people talking bad about DBW, it is because they don't understand it.

Have you driven the STi???

I am not saying that there is no reason to choose the EVO over the STi, nor am I saying the opposite. I just don't find the DBW worthy of being the deciding factor.
