Utter failure at removing transmission for clutch swap.

Spent the day trying to do the clutch on my IX with a buddy of mine. Everything went fine until it came time to pry off the throwout bearing off the fork (by accessing that little rubber 'access hole'). Been following the directions both on here, as well as evomoto.com. Make sure fork is pointed at driver side of car, away from block, hold tight while buddy is under the car twisting screwdriver 90 degrees, just doesn't work.

The transmission is definitely completely unbolted, no motor mounts, nothing except that throwout bearing. You can practically spin the tranny (a little bit) once you pull it off the dowel pins, just to ensure it's being held by nothing else. But yeah, just at a loss of ideas of how to get the tranny dropped.

Anyone else have utter failure trying to pop off the throwout bearing, or any other creative ideas? I literally feel we've tried everything.

hit me, and thanks in advance.

The way the person did mine is you unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel. Use the hole on top of the trans to get at the bolts. Of course you have to rotate the flywheel to get them all out.

The trans will come out after you do that and it is easy to get the clip off when it's out.

Hope that helps.

someone else wrote they did this as well I think. And my buddy may already know this, but how do you rotate the flywheel? I think I read a short 12mm socket on an extension can fit into that little hole.

thanks in advance

1/2 inch ratchet with extension inserted into crank by way of passenger side wheel well

What helped me visualize an easier way to pop it off was a video on YouTube showing the evo throw out bearing and how to release it . Sorry I don't have the link but a quick search should find it. It was a pita when I tried popping it off but patience and persistence and you'll get it off.

It takes very little effort to do this.

yeah we built my new clutch real quick, and did this over and over, but just no earthly idea why the stock clutch in my car won't release the same way.

are you pushing the TOB firmly into the clutch before you try to release it?

If you can't get it just unbolt the pressure plate. I had to do that when the spring popped on my clutch.

I did it alone and I found if you hold the fork with one hand and twist the screwdriver with the other you can "feel" whats happening, as you twist screwdriver let the fork go towards the passenger side! I had to do it twice unfortunately :P Good luck!

Also, you must have the trans on the dowels. I see you mentioned rotating the trans off of the dowels. The TOB clip will NOT pop off if there is pressure on the input shaft, thus negative pressure on the TOB clip. It binds it.

Good luck and stick with it. Its a huge PITA. Just don't drop the trans into the oil pit you're working in(like I did). *rolls eyes* That was 500 unplanned dollars.

I had the same problem when I did it. Eventually just unbolted the pressure plate from the flywheel and was done. Tried many many hours to get the clip to pop off.

Have not had one issue with the clip since installing the Exedy twin disc, can pop it off in less than a minute and have done it several times now. Only problem was on the stock pressure plate.
