Air Intake Cone Filter Newb-ness
OKay, I've asked this question to at least two different locations (I won't specify who, no point to it) and have yet to receive any sort of response, so I figured I'd post this to the populace as a whole and endure the newb-flaming for asking what I think would be a pretty straightforward question.
Is it practical / healthy / safe to use a cone filter intake system on a car that is a dailt commuter in the US northeast where in the last week alone we've had everything from snow to ice and rain and the associated salt dust funfun time due to it.
I've yet to find a single retailer address this, so that fact alone makes me wary. They're all quick to point oif they are CARB exempt and 50 state legal and won't void your warranty, but none of them say, "Yes, replacing your air box with a cone filter is a safe, clean alternative for the air box." I mean, if that's the truth what's the point behind the air box in the first place?
Can someone shed some light and clear up some confusion (or ignorance, if you so deem)?
Thankya.

a regular intake will be fine....but i wouldnt go with a cold air intake...ive known a few people that have hit big puddles and hydro-locked their blocks...aslong as u keep the filter clean u should be fine...buschur makes a nice intake and it wont kill your wallet
I would not want to drive it when it is raining or snowing with a cone filter. mine stays in tha garage when the wather is bad. If I had to drive it everyday I would not have replaced the air box. (hood vent and all)
