evo8 starter signal cable were does it go

My signal cable on starter is damaged somewhere not allowing to make connection to start the car. If I shake the cable around itll start. Anyway im trying to run a new cable for it. Just dont onow if the wire is ran from the ecu or ignition. Anyone?

Ok, maybe you can help me out with this. I tested the current signal wire going to the starter at the ignition and at the end of the cable, and i gets power (sometimes because its damaged). Then i took a brand new wire (tested resistance) and connected it to the ignition cable, but when i turn the ignition, there is absolutely 0 readout at the end of it, which has me thinking, that perhaps the ignition is connected to the ecu, then from ecu it goes to starter.

Can someone explain this, because i dont understand why the cable i connected to the ignition doesnt give a readout at the end of the cable, even thou the original starter signal cable does and its connected to the same source.

The wire originates at the spring loaded start terminal on the ignition switch, then goes to the starter relay which is held open until the clutch is depressed. The clutch switch grounds the relay and it closes. So, there should only be power on the start signal wire when the ignition switch is turned to start with the clutch depressed.

So if i were to run a new wire to the starter. Where would i start from?
Starter relay?

And yes, that's exactly how i tested the original wire, and that's how i traced it at the ignition. Clutch in, turn key, power. But when id connect a wire directly to that ignition wire, clutch in, turn key, that wire would have nothing at the other end, im guessing because it didn't go through the starter relay?

Sorry if i am misunderstanding.

Yeah, the wire would come from the starter relay. But, the only reason the relay is there is for safety. Otherwise it could come straight from the ignition switch. There is also a connection that goes off to the fuel injection or somewhere.
