Fuel pump upgrade? Yes or no?

So basically i have an evo 8 with s2 cams, megan exhaust manifold, aem boost gauges, buschur TBE ets intercooler and piping, forge rs valve as far as mods worth mentioning go. Would upgrading to a fuel pump be a major improvement, what will i notice and what pumps should i look at thinks.

If you are on stock injectors and stock psi I see no reason to put in a new fuel pump. That just my opinion. When you start uping the boost, more air needs more fuel, then I would say slightly bigger injectors and a Walbro 255 fuel pump.

Oh ok. But it wont hurt to go little by little and upgrade the pump now? Is there a pump better than the walbro?

If you have the money and thats what you want I see no reason why you cant replace it right now. At least thats one less thing you will have to do down the road but its definitely not needed with your setup at the moment. If you are running a stock VIII turbo it would be smarter to use that money towards something a little bigger, perhaps a IX turbo or FP Green. I believe your stock fuel pump will be sufficient enough to handle anything your VIII turbo can put out. Pretty sure your turbo will fail before the fuel pump seeing as the stock VIII turbo can't really handle anything over 22psi(safely).

I ran 28psi on my stock VIII with no issue but its not going to last long is all I'm saying, 6 months to a year depending on your driving habits. As for the fuel cut I had the same issue with mine as you just described. It mostly happened at top end of 4th and 5th gear. It ended up being my injectors maxed out. Like I said, if you have the money do the Walbro 255 pump and maybe some injectors between 800cc-1000cc. That will hold you over for more than enough power until you do a rebuild with strong internals or a stroker kit.

I wouldn't think it would be a boost leak. Not a bad idea to check all the clamps and vacuum hoses though.

Will do. So what else could it be? Injectors? I have my plugs gapped at .020(ngkbpre8). My car needs a tune, system is rich but idles lean. Maybe thats the issue?

wow. Ok you need to get injecters and a fuel pump to keep things safe with the cams and the other mods. you have more power to be made by those two things, and safer power at that

I say a yes ! specially with your mods already that would be a good and safe upgrade to do, what everyone is saying so far are correct. Just remember once you put that new fuel pump you will need a tune even though you need one asap anyways. Ill also suggest you shouldn't drive your car hard at all until you get you tune cuz your just hurting the car with cams and fuel pump with no tune.

I would get a fuel pump a set of injectors (bigger for future mods) and a tune is a must to make all your parts work together and safely of coarse.
