Whats Up People, Need help with picking up Evo7

whats up everyone, names George after years of driving v8, i finally decided to go buy an evo
I currently have a 05 vz ssz, and im in the process of trading for a evo 7. i dont know much about evo, just basically what the guy has told me himself, any help will be appreciated as i am a noob with evo haha.

Evo 7 engine apparently blew, so he put in an evo 9 engine
Details:
engine bought off nik kalis australian time attack champion, short engine(without head).
It is an evo 9 rs short block
de-balanc shafted
head studs fitted
std 20lb, been built to take 30lb but will need 3 port boost solonoid and tune to make 250 atw
needs wheel speed sensor on left front wheel, broke when engine got done
new CV in a few months will be needed
new slotted DBA rotos on the rear
car is 97000km, new engine is only 17000km

im just waitin for him to give me the VIN number, so i can double check REVS.

Does this sound legit, how much will it cost to fix up the 3 port and a tune?

Any help appreciated please and thanks
hopefully all is good so i can start using this forum more frequently haha

u might want to re read what you wrote. so ur getting an evo 7 with just a short block no head. 3 port is nothing, 75-100 bucks for an ebcs, then tune, whatever your shops charge.

the deal sounds like ur getting half a car that isnt even complete. more money to be invested to get it running. u dont know history of the motor, missing head, vague description. have u even seen the car?

"engine bought off nik kalis australian time attack champion, short engine(without head)."

You are going to have to buy a head and will likely want to do it right the first time and get the head work done before install.

As sujin mentioned, 3port isn't expensive so that's not bad.

Depending on price, condition, and further details. How did his previous engine blow?

No, i havent seen the car yet, as i am still waiting for the VIN number to see if there is anything else that he hasnt told me. He said the car works fine the way it is. He said the engine just blew, and he got a evo 9 engine. All he told me was that the car runs fine as it is but will only need three port solonoid and tune to run 100%. I really wish i knew half the mods that he sent me, but i havent ever driven a turbo, as i was always into v8. I was hoping someone from here could let me know what is needed and what i should ask him.
ill upload the text message he sent me.

I bought the engine off nik kalis australian time attack champion, it was a short engine ( without head) i have the reciept on an email . Just for regoing the car with it. Its an evo 9 rs short block. Has stronger bottom end than the 7. Its been de- balance shafted and head studs fitted . Ive never played with boost its always been std 20 lb . I built the engine to take 30 lb but havent wound it up. All you need is a 3 port boost solonoid and a tune to make 250 atw the way it is. I had reciepts for all the parts ive bought but have chucked them out as i was never going to sell the car. It needs a few things done ill list it out when i have a chance. The only reason i want a v8 commodore is that i need a car to tow boats.... Ive looked at a few but i dont want to be raped by a caryard. As you probably dont either.

just realize that you're buying a car without an engine. without knowing how the old engine blew, you're ****-outta-luck here.

a stock engine should not blow unless it was abused. there is a reason this car is wrecked. fine one in good shape and buy that instead

is there any chance a engine could have blown any other way? if it were too be abused, if he put a new engine in there thats being professionally done, why does it matter? I know what you mean but im just curious.

Cheers

It sounds a bit dodge. You dont usually build engines to take a boost level, but rather a power output. 250 kw atw on a built motor is quite low... can get that on a stock 7 bottom end but it does depend on the setup.

If it's an evo 9 block, it would have different oil/coolant passages to evo 7/8 heads so would need an evo 9 one I believe ( someone feel free to correct me). Would also need an evo 9 ecu to run the mivec.

To be honest is sounds like a fair bit of work to get it running. Unless the price really is right I would personally avoid it. It sounds like you dont know to much about evos yet so you might be getting in over your head.

If you have the time to learn and money to back up mistakes then go for it.

Ah yeah didnt see you were looking for a trade. I wouldnt do it... the prices of evos have dropped so much in Aus, you will be able to find a better one to trade for. check out evolutionoz.net for sale sections.

If you can stretch it Id advise you get an 8 or 9. the 7s had weaker rods, cant go above 250kw atw without maybe blowing your engine. 8 and 9s can go to 270~ or so and be fine due to different rods.

I would only do it if it's your last choice. You should be able to find better options that are not as sketchy.

Some people may be looking at the information wrong but also giving inaccurate information as well?

It sounds like, from the information given, the engine blew the bottom end and the head was fine. He replaced it from a evo 9 rs and did some basic building. If all that is needed is the 3port and tune then that sounds like the case.

I would run VIN and check it out before you make any more decisions. It could be a clean setup overall with that simple flaw. Others on here have blown their bottom ends and build a new bottom end with beautiful end results. Not many people on here buy the car to not drive it like they stole it.

An evo 7 is a beautiful specimen to us US owners because it's a unicorn. It's all personal preference and what your wallet can afford. With a straight swap, you don't have payments and nothing out of pocket. You can use your funds to directly start modding and fixing to your wants/standards.

Obviously, that is just my take on it. Again, the most important thing is the condition of the car when you see it. Bring an evo buddy that knows it well and what to check. Read over the threads about purchasing an evo and what to look for.
