new paint... how long to wait?

Try to make this short but usually i never can. Currently my 03 evo is in the body shop. Been there for a month getting a voltex kit with hrs wide fenders installed. The whole kit is being fitted to run 18x10 +25 wheels. As of now the car is in primer. They are repainting the whole car. I called to check today cause it was suppose to be done and they said its scheduled for paint monday and bbeing put back together tuesday and wednesday. I confirmed they are using an oven to cure the paint.

Heres my question. I recently bought a spoolin up cop kit and used a carbon fiber wrap for the aluminum plate. I love how it looks, and im throwing around the idea of doing my roof in the vinyl. A buddy of mine supplied the vinyl and does this for money on the side. Im wanting to do the roof and switch all of my existing cf pieces out to a dry cf look since this vinyl looks like a dry cf. How long should i wait after getting the car back to do this? Most shops say wait 6 months before waxing or pressure washing the car to let the paint cure. But when i asked the shop owner how long he said i could that day if i wanted since the oven cures the paint in a day. So would it be safe to lay a vinyl over it within a week and not risk damaging the brand new paint on the car? Thanks for your help.

I would say if the shop owner says its cured in a day then your good to go. I had my evo repainted as well and I had the shop install a clear bra on the whole front end right after they were done painting it because the owner also told me the same thing.

Agree ^^ i would go with what shop owner says. If you trust him enough to paint it you should trust his advice. I had two of my doors repainted after some light damage (deep scratches) and i was told i could wax it that day if i wanted to. Shop owner also said if anything happens bring it back and he will fix for free but has never had anyone come back from waxing it to soon or putting someone on right after paint.

If the shop guarantees the work go for it. Personally, I would wait the 6 months to be sure there's no problem with paint e.g. bad prep etc before covering it up.

i'd wait, the shop told u a time frame. if u mess it up they arent liable because u didnt listen. bad prep paint will start to show in a couple weeks or less. so u might just be covering up a bad job "if" it was.

You must not have read the thread. Shop didnt give me a time frame... i havent asked the shop about putting vinyl over the paint. The shop said i could pressure wash the car and wax it right after getting the car back so i figured putting vinyl on wouldnt hurt but the guy doing it advised not too so i thought to ask others. Also bad prep will not show in weeks. Bad prep shows immediately... its not like the paint is going to change in a week especially when i stated the shop i chose has an oven and cures the paint before the car leaves for insurance and warranty purposes.

I generally wait two weeks before messing with newly painted parts. I think the parts that I get painted are painted with medium quality paint. They chip easily in the corners even after I let them cure but they look nice.

If this bodyshop used x-quality paint then they know how durable the paint can be.

Personally I would wait 90 days if I were you just to let the paint gas out and cure, if you wrap it before all the gases are expelled it will more than likely ruin the paint just my opinion.

Thanks for all your opinions guys. Got the car back yesterday and it looks amazing. Just finished installing the wheels, next i have to install the voltex diffuser, put my spooling up cop on, and my mil spec 65mm tb. I asked the owner of the shop about the vinyl wrap and he said it should be fine but he wont warranty it if vinyl is applied period. as for the gases projektevo9, the vinyl my friend uses (at least the carbon fiber) has chanels in the back of it to help avoid air bubbles when applying, so i would think that would let any gases, if any at all, out. Thanks for the replies guys. Im gonna give it a while before i have this done to make sure no defects occur in the paint. Im also kind of digging the new look since i went from wicked white single stage, to weightless white with a clear coat.
