We own probably one of the last made Japanese cars constructed of Japanese parts. Go to the dealer now and I don't care what you buy new or what you spend for it you are going to end up with a bunch of Mexican and Chinese made parts. So look for a car or truck with a big warranty - you are going to need it.

That is an absolutely ignorant and false statement.

But there's some validity to it. If I recall correctly, the VIIIs and IXs were 100% made and assembled in Japan. The Xs weren't, and we'll likely see the percentages of stuff made and/or assembled outside of Japan increase more and more.

This thread is about Evo pricing and pricing is about perception but also quality. Japan reached the pinnacle of car quality in the late 1990's and the cars we drive were designed about then. Lucky us.

I used to work at a fix-it forum for basically clunker Hondas. Owners would come to the forum with their automotive complaint and describe the vehicle as year 1997, 400K miles, original automatic transmission and the engine never open. I saw stuff like this over and over.

Anyway, not knocking Mexico or China. Korea is there for quality but the others have a ways to go yet. It is going to dilute the quality of your and my next new vehicle but that is just the way it is.

Also, a few services ago, I was at my local Mitsubishi dealership and just chatting with other people near me. The guy near me was having his Mitsubishi serviced as well, and I think he had an Outlander or Outlander Sport. I asked what he did, and he said he was a Honda service tech. So I asked him what made him go with Mitsubishi over Honda. He said most Hondas now aren't made/assembled in Japan, as he had pointed out the difference in quality and reliability in Hondas now that they're not all from Japan (based on his own experience working at Honda as a service tech) and preferred something that was actually from Japan.

The Evo 10 was made and assembled in Japan in the same plant that the 8 and 9 where. Not sure what you're going on about.

.

100%. If it's a MR it's less because the SST is from slovekia.

I think that was the earlier ones. Like pistons4550 said, later ones had 90% give or take, like the 2015 Final Editions, even without the SST. Still a decreasing percentage (albeit not by a huge amount).

Looks like the FE is 93% but still made and built in Japan.

oh who cares... this is in the same vein as all those little things the 8/9 guys would pick on the X guys about that would drive them nuts.

I think had the X came with a 6 speed manual I would have been very, very tempted to pick one up. that's my reason for getting a IX MR when I decided to sell my IX GSR, the X didn't even cross my mind. I'm sure everyone has their own specific reasons for wanting an 8/9, pushing the demand up. we'll see in another 10 years how the market for the X is.

I enjoyed reading through this thread...

I used to own an '03 Evo 8 for about 6 years. I sold it to buy a Supra Turbo/6 speed about 4 years ago now. In ways, I bought the Supra at the right time, because prices have literally blown up this past year or two. I've contemplated selling the supra and enjoying the profits, but I'm unsure I'll ever be able to let this car go. It truly is downright silly the attention this 20 year old Toyota brings. It's definitely an icon of a car.

I recently sold my S2000, which was my primary track/autox toy for only a year. I loved that car in many ways, but I still keep coming back to wanting an Evo VIII/IX again.

This time I'm going to hopefully hold out, and buy what I want. Either an '05/'06 EB, or and '06 WW. I've been looking for the past year or so just to see what's out there. I now have looked seriously the past month or two and it's looking like it might be as hard to find as a good clean supra is.

I may have to revisit my color choices and pickiness. I really want one in the 50k-80k mileage range, stockish to bolt ons with a body/paint that's in excellent condition. Obviously exceptions to this are possible if it's clean (IE higher mileage). But man, are there many beat to **** and highly modified ones out there. I wish that was my cup of tea, as I'd have one by now!
