How do I program a new remote to lock/unlock doors?

I looked online, but nothing I read seems to work. I jumped pins 1 and 4, then hit the hazards 6 times and got the 3 lock conformation, then hit lock 3 times on the remote, but nothing happened. Any help with this?

I'll try it out again, I'm not using the factory remote, it's a prestige remote for the alarm that came on the car when I bought it. Thanks for the links.

Finally I got it working I just kept messing with the valet switch and pushing the lock button and finally the doors lock and the alarm arms. Thanks for the help.

This link helped me out quite a bit since I was originally in valet mode so it wouldn't program. I had to take it out of valet mode then push the program switch and hold the lock button down until the alarm chirped.

Sounds like a wiring short to me. Are you saying that when you unlock it that it beeps once like normal but then doesn't stop beeping and just keeps beeping over and over and over again? That's so weird bro, wiring short perhaps????

i bought a remote because i lost mine i did the programming like it is stated on STM and then it just started beeping, i thought i was just in programming mode and then it stopped when it programmed the remote but now everytime i lock or unlock my car the horn beeps for 5 minutes if the car is off or keeps beeping until i shut the car off for five minutes. Its not the loud regular horn it is a softer almost muffled horn. The car was fine before i lost the original remote

Gotcha, that's so weird and I've never heard of anything like that. Did you try unhooking the negative battery terminal to reset everything? I would start there. If that doesn't help maybe try programming the fob again. Maybe the fob is defective and keeps sending the signal out over and over?

its not a wiring issue as the car's remote worked until it was lost it only started happening after i programmed the new remote unless bridging the 1 and 4 pin shorted something i cant see how any wiring has failed
