Exhaust & header wraps
Exhaust & header wraps
Hi guys,
i bought a few rolls of exhaust/header wrap.
Im thinking of coating the exhaust manifold & down pipe.
however I've watched this video regarding mild Steel;
Any issues with the OEM cast or stainless steel?
will it shorten the life also?
thanks

that looks pretty bad…
i guess you just gotta stay away from mild steel.
Well ill wrap the cast OEM exhaust manifold and see how it goes
Those are off and old NA thin wall exhaust. The material and it's thickness have a huge affect here. It will cause more heat to be retained in the metal that is true and possibly cause cracks in poorer quality iron castings. Most purpose built turbo stuff that is stock or decent aftermarket will hold up fine though. It makes a big difference in underhood temps and all that goes along with that, plus reduced burn hazard is very nice. Also with mild steel if you paint it with a high temp paint before you wrap it it will go a long way towards preventing oxidation.

Yeah I've got a roll of header wrap.
will get it done once i get the O2 housing on. (may wrap that too)
since i looked into ceramic coating and it aint cheap
^^ this is key, i was going to post this a while back but never did. Have been doning this on mild stuff for a while and it has held up. All though I don't drive the vehicle in winter. There is also a wrap paint that you can use after its wrapped to help seal it off from mosture.

im assuming with the cast stuff… obscure locations on the body panel would rust out earlier than the stock manifold, wrapped or unwrapped.
Paint in spray form?
never heard of it.
