questions about tuning.

ok I have read over a few different sites about tuning the ecu and im still not really understanding it. I understand I need to get the cable for it. and then evoscan or something along the lines of that. but that's kinda how far I have gotten with the tuning. I really want to try this myself. where can I find some more literature on how to understand fuel maps more and how changing them ups or lowers hp. where can I find out how to set rev limiters or take them off. stuff like that I want to learn how to tune the ecu period. no dyno here though so it will be street tunes. im located in the Spokane Washington area if anyone here understands tuning and wants to school me up. thanks ahead of time.

I would man but it takes a lot of time and effort, I spent a whole year learning

able to tune my own car, on maf, speed density, bigger injectors, dual map mods, etc

right now fighting 1650cc injectors and just found out I picked the worse ones, might end up getting 1450cc instead

Hop over to the ecuflash section and read, read, read. It will start to come together as you pick up bits and pieces.

There is a good thread on how to tune that is a good starting point.

As stated above, check out the EcuFlash section (assuming this is what you intend on using to tune) on here, and read until your eyes bleed.

There's an 8-12 (I think) video series section on YouTube that's already linked on post #2

Also, google and download the 100+ page guide by Merlin. I'm sure "Merlin's EcuFlash Guide" will get you in the right direction. I wouldn't be surprised if it's stickied under the EcuFlash section on here.

So someone once told me some of the evo 8s had a 2 step built into the ecu and it takes a tune to get it out. Is this true? I honestly dont know much about the ecu and computers in general. Thanks ahead of time

Its a stationery rev limiter. It was set above the stock rev limiter for the 04 and below Evos stock...so it wasn't that it was off...it was set so high you couldn't get to it. The 05 and above came with it set to 5000rpm. Buried somewhere in that ECUFlash forum if you look around enough for it.

Yah, its referred to as the stationary rev limiter. You can adjust it to your preferred launch RPM. If you get into the tephramod roms you can also tune launch maps for added off line punch.
