Unhappy 1st gear whines, paranoid?

Testing out a car and i hear 1st gear whines, but not in other gears. Signs of death whine creeping in or am i just paranoid.

I've read that its normal if it doesn't whine at higher RPMs but that does not seem normal for me... Any help is appreciated

The Car is 03 Evolution supposedly rebuilt Transmission and t-case

thanks in advance,

Hard to diagnose without seeing/hearing it in person but my 5 speed whines in 1st gear. Never had a whine until I swapped in a 5 speed. Im assuming it is normal, rode in several 5 speed Evos and they all had a faint whine in 1st gear. Not as loud/noticeable as a Honda in reverse but similar sound if you know what I mean.

From what I've read death whine is heard at decel in higher gears and higher speeds, not in 1st. And it is normal for first to have a bit of whine.

1st gear whines, paranoid?

It's not straight cut. But it does have a much more mild helical cut to reduce thrust loading on the ball bearing input shaft bearings. Thus, it whines.

First is all the way to the right...

I was worried that I had the "death whine" because I heard the whine in first gear. Then I searched on here and figured out that it's pretty normal. Mine is a little noisy at times, but as soon as I switch into 2nd gear, it disappears. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the "death whine" is heard through all the gears and not just one. I've never heard it in person though so correct me if I'm wrong.

As stated above, first gear/revers on most manual cars are almost a straight cut/doggear setup. So they will whine.
