Evo tail light removal

I have been trying to take out the tail lights in order to repair any rust damage i have on the bumper, but MAN are they hard to take out.

Has anyone else had as much difficulty removing the taillights as I have been having?.. I literally tried for 20 minutes but the last pin in the corner of the light will not come loose.. it's like they super glued it in there..

Any tips?

thnx..

I originally went to Evomoto because i knew they had a guide, but it turned out pretty useless.

"Angle it out while pulling/wiggling and will come out pretty easily"

... are they joking? The procedure couldn't be more frustrating..

still cant get them out.. ARGGGHH!

Good god.. my fingers are in pain as I type this.

I decided to call it quits for today before I got too angry and broke the lights off the damn car..

I tried "wiggling" the housing while its slightly pulled out..

I tried pulling the opposite side of the light towards the trunk with my fingers (that just caused them to get sore)..

I'm beginning to question if its actually possible to take out the tail light without breaking the bulb, housing etc.

Has anyone else had as much difficulty as me?

Damn dood, it aint that hard. I'm trying not to laugh (sorry).

There are 3 pins behind it. They go into plastic inserts that then go into holes that are drilled into the bodywork. It is not going to be easy to break....I suggest you get a large flat head screwdriver, put a rag around it and try to work it (carefully!) behind the part where the screws are. Slowly pry it away until the one post pops out. Then get your hands around the rest and pull it out. Once you get one out the other will come out easily because you will see how it works....

Actually, there are 2 screws behind the housing as mentioned on evomoto.

http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?techID=24

My problem is with the one all the way at the outer corner. I'm afraid if pull the housing out towards myself, the other side would scratch against the body of the car, crack the housing itself, snap off the bulb, etc.

I'm just wondering from which part of the tail light you guys "pulled" from when you removed them.

its pretty easy. just get a flat head screw driver and put a rag over the tip of it, and push it inbetween the body and tail light. then it will pop right off. Of course u have to take out the other two screws first

dude....i am sorry...but just yank....two screws and yank...it takes 1 minute a light....there are very tight (the first time) plastic clips on the back....the outter corner is always the last and hardest....but seriously just yank....they will come right out.

I was thinking about doing this, but wouldnt it scratch and damage some of the housing?

I think the guy who put in my tail lights in japan didn't know any better and put some super glue between the screw & body. The way you guys describe the process, it seems like the easiest thing in the world.

I finally built up enough courage and used enough brute strength to pull them out..

It was frightening at first.. but I got the damn things out and disconnected the wiring..

Alrighty, now to continue disassembling so I can fix the bumper rust problem..
