Which oil are you using ?

I was using Amsoil Zrod 10w30. I switched to Amsoil signature series 5w50 since I'm now making a lot more power than a stock turbo and my tuner said o start using a 50 weight oil. And the ball bearing turbo doesn't need the ZDDP like your journal bearing turbo. I like to 5w50 over a 20w50 because it's still decently thin for cold starts on cold mornings or night.

So with this thicker oil should I be letting the car get up to operating temperature fully in the morning before driving it ? It gets really cold here In Chicagoland. I'm considering changing to a 5w 50 instead...

Turndown , how often are you changing your oil ? We seem to be using the same stuff currently.

Still open to more opinions.

Thanks guys
I'm using Amsoil Z-Rod 10W-30 and according to my oil analysis I can go more than 3,000 miles on it. My car has an FP Green turbo with cams on a stock block and head.

I let my coolant temp get to about 100* before I start driving, it only takes a minute or two. And then I take it easy for a good 10-15 minutes before I lean on it. Letting it idle to warm up all the way is just wasting fuel.

I'm going to look at the pricing for the amsoil z rod. Is it possible to get 4,000 miles since its full synthetic or is that frowned upon?

Don't do that unless you want to waste fuel and engine life... Give it a minute or two to get oil in the head and get the coolant warm then drive it. I don't rip on it until oil is up to operating temp but that is up to you if you want to with your car
