Evo 8 4G63 Block, why it is different?

Hello guys.

I have here 4G63 block that I was told that it was from Evo 8.

but how come my evo 8 water pump is not covering the cavity of coolant passage?

please tell what 4g63 block I have.

im assuming its from 2003 4g63T jdm outlander, or jdm evo 8 block?
but not positive.

Thanks

This is the original pump

With new water pump. See the exposed cavity?

Handy thread here: http://www.evoowners.co.uk/threads/mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-engine-codes.2401/

You got the worst bottom end of all the rotated 4G63s.

Prone to crank walk, ring, piston issues that were said to be sorted in the Evo V and up.

Other than the prone to crank walk thing the rest is bogus as far as I'm aware. I've had 4 blocks apart side by side to a 5, 6, and 8 blocks and have seen no difference in regards to pistons etc. I believe the part numbers were even the same.

Can one simply use an evo 8 block and evo 4 head? I was planning on building my evo 4 and wanted to just use and evo 8 block....

Other option would be to use an entire evo 8 motor....but would the evo 8 motor bolt up to my evo 4 transmission and tcase?
