I know that everyone here says that when the evo 8 or 9 has the battery and break lights flashing. Alternator is going bad. I went to auto zone to have them test the battery and alternator. They told me my alternator was fine and battery was bad. Replaced battery and still had the same problem. So it was to be the alternator. I have a turbo timer that has a volt meter. It's normally at 14.2 but would jump up to 15.9volts then back down to 14 or even 13 volts repeatly. Down know if anyone elses had that high of a voltage with alternator problem.

I've had to replace mine for the same issue. As well as some of the wiring.

Was the trigger wire for the regulator.

My voltage was doing weird stuff/not charging after the alternator swap. I decided to jump the wire that ran from the regulator straight to the battery with a new piece and viola. Voltage back to normal.

There are (4?) wires that run from the built in regulator to several places in the vehicle. One of these is some sort of trigger wire that runs directly from the battery to the regulator, I found that it was showing an inconsistent voltage around 9v, and was causing the alternator to overcharge thinking the battery was at 9v.

Update: Found the diagram

The wire that runs directly to the battery should show 12V. Mine was not, and must have been shorted somewhere.

Thanks for the schematics . Well, I took my car in and had them replace the alternator. Lucky it was just the alternator. But was ready to check to the wires if that didn't do the trick.
