4g64 Mivec head timing questions

Can someone help me? I have an Evo ix I’m having issues with timing. Has a 4g64 and Mivec head, it won’t start and back fires. Is my timing right? Also has GCS S3 cams. Thanks in advance.

The Mivec gear is off a tooth, and the exhaust cam look like its 4-5* off. Really though, it should still run.

Also on the exhaust side, line the inner part of the cam gear up with the mark on the valvecover, pay no attention to the mark on the outer part.

See my post below for how mine was timed, and it ran great.

This is what mine looked like, notice on the exhaust I just lined up the inner part of the gear with the valvecover mark. The inner part represents the cam, so that's all that matters.

My timing was a little closer due to using the ER oil pump gear, but it gives you the general idea.

Hopefully you did the Mivec gear mod to retain full range of motion for cam timing.
