In need of some Advice
In need of some Advice
Greetings to all from the other side of the pond. Have a really big problem and in need of some advice. I know it wasnt the best decision in the world but I am pruchased and EVO VI and a really good price 10k. I have had the car for about a year and I am in total love with it. But I have come to the conclusion that I cannot bring it back to the US (I am military). It is financially stupid for me to try to bring it back. I have done my reaserch and everyone in the US that has EVO 4,5,6, haven't done brought them in a "legal" fashion. No two ways are the same.
So I am at the conclusion that I have to sell it. .My main question is what should I do? I can get a new US spec SRT-4 Neon, which we all have to admit is a nice whip, but come on its a Neon . I also might be able to get my hands on an oldschool STI for a good price and I am pretty sure I can one of those back. Or I might be able to get an EVO VIII, but I would have to make monthly payments. Payments on two cars (My wifes 03 Proterge5) aint too smart either. I love Mitsubishis and the EVO has got me in the state of mind that my next car has to be either 4WD or TURBO. I wont be back to the states for about 3yrs. What to do what to do? If anyone cares I will take any advice.

Pay off the wifes car over the next three years, and at the same time save up money for the EVO. By the time you get back here in three years, Mitsubishi will no longer be importing the EVO and you will be able to pick up a 2 or 3 year old one for a pretty good price.

Well, you asked for advice so here goes...
Keep an open mind. You've got 3 years to go, who knows what may happen in the meantime. I think you're probably right about importing the VI, so enjoy it while you can and when the time gets close look for a hungry buyer. In the meantime, pay off the wife's car and you'll be ready for something new over here. Maybe you could get a good deal on a used VIII, maybe on the subie or maybe on something that isn't available yet. No matter what, all you can do at this time is plan for the event -- ie, save money.
Good luck.

Thanks, that sounds good. If I sell it now I can get almost double what I paid for it. I think I am going to sell it and next summer just get my 91 Sentra SE-R shipped over.

Getting the Sti into the States (and getting it properly registered and on the road) will be no easier than getting in a non-US Spec Evo. Laws are laws. So if your SE-R is not a US Spec car, don't count on being able to import that either.
Enjoy your Evo now. When you are about 6mos from shipping out, sell it. Who knows what the car market will look like by then. There will likely be bigger and better cars in the US to spend your money on by then anyway.

Looks to me like you have three years to save up for a new evo when you get here. Plus the money you'll net from selling your current evo, you should be all over a US spec evo (likely w/ little or no payments). Resale on evo VIIIs in the states isn't that great at the moment, and likely won't get better over the next three years. Even though we all wish it would. ;-)
Enjoy what you have and worry about the details later. In the meantime, save that money!

My SE-R is US spec setting in my garage in NC. I was just talking about bringing it here to Europe and selling the EVO. I know laws are laws and I am not trying to do anything that can get me in any more trouble than I am already in.
