Ix mr pcm recall failed

So I took the IX MR to a socal mitsu dealership for my pcm recall and they had me sign a waiver saying if it bricks they are not responsible . How ever they can fix it by bench flashing it for a fee if it bricks. Upwards of 800$

I went ahead and had them do it anyways. I figure it's unavoidable. They came back with the results of not able to flash the new program on it. Because it's got a aftermarket tune and the roms don't match ? Anyways. My ecu did not brick.

What gives? I thought this was a easy recall job.

Maybe there is something I am not understanding, but why would you allow your dealership to make you sign a waiver that no-faults them if they break your ECU??? And then charging you afterwards if they do break it? I would blow a fuse. I have to be missing something lol.

I had to have a Airbag recall done on my Evo. Which I regrettably did ONLY because it was a safety hazard. So I let them work on it. (not going to mention the interior dmg they did). Upon that recall they also mentioned the PCM recall as well. I told them I didn't want the ECU messed with as it was already flashed. The tech just marked it down as "recall performed".

My only recommendation is to flash back to your stock ROM if you must. The only thing the PCM recall does is: [Pulled from another source on here: "This recall was created because people were burning up catalytic converters thanks to the stock richness of the fuel map"] Otherwise, I would avoid that recall all together if your car is tuned already.

The mitsu tools validate your rom before doing the update. The bricked ECU is more of an Evo X problem, but they probably just blanket put it in there when dealing with all evos. 800 sounds crazy. My guess it's the worst case scenario, and they are replacing the ecu kind of estimate.

So because my ecu is tuned. It didn't pass the validation ?
The guy Used a hand held tablet looking thing

I WANT to do the recall because my car came tuned from previous owner and no copy of the original ROM
I had the car return to stock for smog purposes and decided to stay that way. I want a original stock rom for my car

Anyways, any dealership in southern California you guys recommend I take it to to have it done the right way ?

Thanks

I don't have a copy of my original stock rom. The car came tuned from previous owner ;(

I tried it. the car fires up but won't hold idle. So I flashed the tuned rom back in.

Probably won't hold idle because the injector scaling is completely different with OEM Injectors versus what you have now. I would find another dealer. Is there a reason you want this PCM recall performed? If not, I would ask the dealer to just bypass it and mark it as completed.

i would have assumed if you were trying to get the dealer to flash the car... then you were stock.

Reason I want it done is because the car came with a unknown tune and no original rom file. So I figured getting the recall done I can have a copy of my original map. And than go get a professional tune of my choosing

After further digging around. I noticed I have a EVO X map sensor. Maybe that's the reason it won't hold idle with a stock rom ?

Bingo. Need either a stock map to work with stock rom, or modify the xml to add the patch for evo x map.
