Looking to buy an EVO 8 - any red flags?
Hello @Kayx187
Well, it kinda looks like the owner had set up the EvO for the drag strip as the front strut bar has been removed. Looks like it has a cast FP exhaust manifold & the EvO looks like it has been run in the wet as the mani has surface rust. The mani is also missing an exhaust mounting stud. Looks like the engine has been modded for Speed Density & has VTA blow-off valve. Likely has a aftermarket FMIC & intake pipes. Looks the brake master cylinder has a brace on it (i run one as well). No suspension coilovers. Ignition coils looks stockish.
The other questions would be health of the engine, miles, engine mods, chassis quality (no rust) etc, etc.
Not much can be had from just the engine bay pic but it does give some info
Cheers, Joe

Wow, actually looks better than i would have imagined. Does have some miles & would be interested in checking the unibody for rust / corrosion issues. Curious if the motor, trans & diffs are still OE? If it is still OE w/the 150K miles, it may be a bit worn?
It does show well! More questions need to be asked
Keep us posted please

Get and go over the CARFAX for sure!!
Lip is chipped up, not a huge deal. Car is missing a fender bolt, worse a missing exhaust manifold bolt (A tener says it’s snapped off in the head), as well as non standard blots throughout the engine bay.
#1) I’d definitely throughly check underneath the vehicle , you’re looking for where the front and rear subframes connect to the unibody and the rear subframe back They are known to rust very badly in those areas if moisture, salt, have gotten at it w/o checking and protecting these areas over the years. Seen some here in the Notheast where it would cost more than the cars worth to actually put right even though exterior looks mint.
I’d say it’s most definitely been drag raced. No strut bar as mentioned and an FP Black turbo. Car is going to be a little laggy on the street with that FP Black not too terrible but plenty to notice, especially if you’ve ever driven a stock turbo Evo or any other stock turbo sports car.
#2) I’d have a professional shop that are 100% familiar with Evolutions mechanics
/tuning go over the tune before ever boosting the car, unless dealer knows or CARFAX shows a shop it may have been serviced at could give you an insight into who may have tuned it and/or worked on it previously. If so contact them they may be able to tell you about the car, if they’re reputable and local ask them to come check the car out for you or another local reputable tuner/mechanic that knows these cars.
If by chance there are none in your area, there are some great tuners that would be willing to assist you remotely in checking on the tune, will cost you a ~$100 for a cable and the SW to pull the current tune from the car is free.
Another $20 in SW if you need to datalog the car in case a tuner needs to make any changes. Check the ECUFLASH forums for related information on that.
It does show well for sure (except the whole tire lettering thing, but that silly personal preference lol) please just do your due diligence and have it checked over properly by someone that knows the platform both mechanically and ecu tuning wise.

In my opinion, if you have the funds available be more patient, i think for that price you can find a nicer evo.

6 owners. It can be hard enough to get one owner to care about the car but 6?
Also is that really the price Evo's with that many miles are going for right now?
