Just got a Evo 8, trouble shooting a few issues.

I just got a 2003 evo 8 for a Daily, I already own 2 3000gt Vr4s so I’m not new to Mitsubishi but I am new to this platform. I drove the car back home 5 hours and has no issues and the car pulls hard. It does have a tune (Mod list below)

When I start the car I have to keep the clutch in or flutter the throttle, if not it will die until the car warms up. ( I was thinking I needed to bypass the resistor but it still has stock injectors)

The car also burns a little oil, compression is good along with oil pressure, intake side of turbo is good. It burns randomly when I come to a stop or when In alot of boost. But doesn’t burn when driving normally. Im thinking Valve Seal? or maybe exhaust side of turbo?

congrats on the new car. whats the PCV setup? do you get oil in the intake piping? my previous turbo leaked into the downpipe (which was always wet)

Alright welcome to the boards @BlitzVr4 . Based on your notes a leak down test is in order to determine the level of pressure retention at each cylinder.

Those look like compression numbers vs leak down numbers?

Intake piping seemed dry just a little bit right there at the bottom, going to check PCV today when off work and hot side of turbo.

I guess leak down is a new term to me… haven’t done one of those yet. I’ll look it up and try.

Leak down was done all numbers were good with 11% being the highest. Pulled exhaust on turbo and that’s definitely where all the oil was coming from. New parts on the way!

@BlitzVr4
what the... why buy mishimoto, get ETS.

I believe you need to address your PCV set up, i think high crankcase pressure is what breaks the turbo oil seal. check if FP red needs the oil pressure regulator thing. My first 71htr didnt last long without it

I am just the opposite of you. Welcome to the boards. I have my evo and dsms and I am new to the 3s game. I have a 92 stealth rt/tt with 19t setup, fmic, id 1000s and I am still working on getting the bugs worked out of it to be my dd. The evo is a whole different animal in my opinion. The 3s has very little to offer in aftermarket vs what the evo has. Now addressing the problem I agree the PVC could be the problem but it sounds to me more like its a dead turbo. If it burns like you said it does, more then likely the turbo needs rebuild. PVC will smoke at idle just randomly kinda like valveseals will. I had problems with my stealth with valve seals and pvc and I still have to figure out how to fix the pvc in it being when I run wg pressure it blows the dipstick and I can smell oil when the heat is on.
