Questions about AYC and its value
Questions about AYC and its value
So I'm in the USA, where we didn't get AYC until the evo x. I'm considering getting an evo at this point and originally AYC was a selling point until I found out we never really got it. is AYC worth it? does it make such a difference that I'd be better off going with an evo 4 from japan? Is it something I can retrofit to a us spec evo? originally I wanted an evo 8 or 9 but now I'm wondering how much I'm losing out on without ayc. Considering I would roughly spend the same on an 8/9/X and about 5- 10k less on a lower mileage 4. I'm really unsure of which would be the best choice. I plan on slowly building the car up into a fun track car, so any advice those of you with AYC can give would be really appreciated.
I've looked for video comparisons or details on this and haven't really found much, so if you've got anything I'd really be thankful.

The less electronic interference, the best IMO. Forget about retrofitting that system into an 8 or 9. The OE rear end is not built for that system.
If you get an 8 or 9, a nicely built LSD rear end will be all ya need. Id even be more interested in finding an Evo 8 w/no ACD as that system is complex & if the ACD pump fails, that is another expensive project

Came to say the same thing. For a track toy, generally speaking less is more and in this case the Evo 8 would be what I would look for. Less interference as well as a larger population for used parts as stuff is already getting hard to find new for the 8/9.

Many of us track or have tracked our Evos & are very competitive in all HPDEvents. Trust me, AYC is not needed & will not be missed or noticed. Many of us have had TRE / Sheps / Jacks work on our trans / diffs & rear ends making those components almost bullet proof & high performers on the track or street (no AYC needed or wanted)
Getting into an Evo 8, 9 or even a 10 is not for everyone as their values have risen sharply. Many for sale Evos may have high mileage and / or require some component rework (engine & drive train re-build)
It takes quite the interest & dollar commitment to get into one. Dont get me wrong, certainly hope to see you get into one. Just wanted you to know AYC is not needed & wont be missed IMO
Cheers, Joe
