Carbon Fiber Intake Manifold
Carbon Fiber Intake Manifold
What would you all think about a full carbon fiber (except for flanges / bolts of course) intake manifold for the Evo VIII? It would save weight, have better flow characteristics than both the stock mani, as well as any of the contemporary aftermarket manifolds out there ( BJ's / Magnus). Also performance and weight savings aside, it would really add a great look to the engine bay! I've seen similar setups on turbo civics gain an easy 20hp peak from just this mod alone. What does everyone think?

can carbon fiber even hold up to constant 20+ psi boost spikes and engine temperatures like that? as pimp as it would look i couldnt bring myself to pay probably 1k plus for a CF manifold when tried and proven aftermarket ones are like $700
Why bother...because you want to reduce the weight, the extra power you make from a large intake manifold would more then make up for any weight reduction. Also how strong would a CF manifold be up to the constant high pressure change.
There are already a handful of shops here I know who sell larger intake manifolds. HKS Kansai recently released a new intake manifold, as well as another shop but the name escapes me. But ask yourself this do you really need it, alot of the competition circuit Evos here are still using the same factory setup.

Pressure.... hmmm I dunno I think the skin of a C-17 transport plane gets pressurized a lot more then that everyday and it has a TON of CF composite panels that make up it's skin.
