Well, the plot THICKENS.

There are 3 versions of the EVO VIII, and the US Spec base model is supposed to get close to 280-hp. They also say it has AYC.

Base model (5-speed)
GSR model (6-speed)
RS model (5-speed, stripped down for rally)

Ok ... hrmmmmm

my guess is we get an RS-II model or something similar so it will retain the 5-speed and then mitsu will bring the 8.5 over in GSR trim with the 6-speed the following year.

of course i wish theyd just give us the 6 speed with ACD right off the bat but i guess we should be happy that the US is getting the car at all.

Damm those are the best spy pics of the Evo VIII!! It looks like they tried to tape up the newly design parts of the car. The redesigned front looks the best in these pics. If the more swept-back rear window is true (couldn't tell by the pics) then that would be a definite improvement over the VII.

I like those wheels.. you guys think we'll get those, or will they stick with the older style rims on the VII?? and whats with all the black tape?? is that to break up the outline and profile of the car, or did they simply attach the front fascia and rear wing with electrical tape?

I like it.. still hasnt grown on me as much as the VII, but its already better than a scooby.

The black tape is used to try and disguise the car. It is commonly done with manufacturers. Does it appear to anyone else that the top part of the wing is carbon fiber?

ARGH NEWS.... I just spoke to the manager at Mitsubishi. I am still promised spot #1 and they have many deposits after mine, but he did not say how many.

He said: NO RELEASE DATE and THERE WILL BE various models of the EVO. He did confirm the Lancer Cedia Turbo and the EVO VIII, and said the EVO VIII will be the highest trim level for the USA.

I don't like how it looks

The 6 was the best looking one in my opinion. But hey if its got the performance who cares right?

I still don't know what to think. I still need to see it in person to judge, preferrably in black. The spoiler is definitely different than from the Evo VII. Lets just hope that the 280 bhp stock is true!
