Odds of an AWD Lancer?
Odds of an AWD Lancer?
Seriously, think this will ever happen?
There's been rumours of a new Lancer coming out in 2004, but nothin's been planned yet.
And we all know the Cedia comes in AWD as well.
But I've been wondering, eventually I'm gonna get me a car (not till University's done tho) and I'm hoping by that time Mitsu's gonna release one....
Any thoughts?

I agree... with Subaru haveing a 2.5RS, WRX, and forthcomign STi WRX
will need something to compete against the lower priced models. plus, there is stong indication that ford is going to bring both a 220hp and 300hp version of the awd focus to the US.

can sign some talent & start to compete next season. would be nice to see the 206 come over, but that is a long ways off I think... I would rather see the Citroen come over... easily the best looking wrc right now imo
trigeek37, that's exactly what I was thinking
I mean, most of Subaru's lower cost cars have all wheel drive, like the 2.5 and maybe the SVX (i'm not too sure?) and you'd think mitsubishi would step up and compete with them
but all the cheaper cars are FWD
by the time i get outta school i'm still not gonna be able to afford the evolution 8, so i wanna settle on somethin that has good control (i plan to start taking lessons on a nearby track) and eventually drift/grip
PS. Peugeot, Citroen and Ford are the only manufacturers on placing on the list...last I heard Passonen won the 5 or 6th stage, cause Alister was hurt...
I still wish Colin came to Mitsubishi tho

yeah, having the McRae brothers driving together would be sweet! I have heard this rumor before here, is Colin on the outs with Ford?
actually every Subaru imported to the US has been awd for a number of years now. all of them start their lives fwd (like all Mitsubishis & Audis) and are converted. The SVX was awd only with a 230 hp 3.3L flat 6. that was a very odd car - and has not been made in a number of years.

I would not bet on a 4WD lancer for the U.S.
does not have a single sedan in it's U.S. line-up with 4WD. There are rumors a 4WD Diamante may hit our shores. So we may see a limited 4WD Lancer starting with the 2004 model along with the more powerful engines.

p.s. The SVX was their top of the line car during it's run, it's cheap now because you can only find it used...it's baller but too heavy for my tastes.
Mitsubishi has imported plenty of awd cars in the past - Galants, Eclipses, and GTOs. More importantly, awd cars are starting to be seen as sporty and practicle by the automotive industry and the public.
BWM now has awd offered in the 3 series, and will soon be offered in the 5 & 7 series. The next IS300 (Altezza) is supposed to be offered with an awd option, as is the MB c-series (SC 3.2 V6 to take on the M3). Look at the progress Audi (and high end VW) has made in the past few years in the US & Canada - thanks in large part to offering awd in all of their models.
That, and Subaru, with the introduction of the WRX has created a new market in the US that will probably explode in the next few years. With the forthcoming release of the Evo8 and the increasing rumors of the awd focus, expect to see a response from GM & Daimler/Chrysler very soon. Buyers are getting the best of all worlds. Cars that are quick from the factory, have nice road manners, and can be used in snowy climates. Also, the performance dollar is on par with the Mustang (almost anyway... the new Cobra is scarry as hell!) and the outgoing f-bodies.

The Peugeot 206 is about as ****ty as a civic hatchback (no offense to anyones civic hatchback, but its no sports car in stock form). They make like maybe 100whp on a cold day. If you go to many parts of europe 106's and 206's are the average commutor car. I've never heard anything about plans to create a 206 with AWD or a turbo for that matter. The race car shares almost no similarities to the production cars and is why it is so great in rally, it was completely built for rally.
