Help! Evo Won't Start!

Looking for some help. installed a defi boost gauge w/ the link controller today. wired up the unit to the cigarette lighter, as others have done. i tapped into ECU harness for a source of permanent power for the memory functions. the red w/ black stripe wire that goes into the ecu plug that is closest to driver side. i check it w/ the volt meter and this was a source of permanent 12v. after finishing the install, i go to start the car and it cranks but doesn't even try to start! i suspected that i may have disconnected something so i rechecked the voltage on the permanent 12v connection and it is dead? At one point i accidently touched this lead against bare metal and got a spark, would this have caused damage? during the install i unplugged the harness to the ecu, but i rechecked it and is properly plugged in. while searching for a permanent 12v source i had also unplugged the harnesses under the radio but i rechecked those and they are fine. I foolishly did not disconnect the negative terminal on the battery during the install. does anyone have any idea what i could have done? BTW the gauge lights up but does not seem to be working. a boost gauge will move (show vacuum) even while you are cranking, right?

Check your fuses.

most likely you blew a fuse

it could be ecu fired? you should have disconnect the negative terminal it would havent happend. maybe you should try have the ecu tested to see if its good or not. good luck man.. yeah i know the feeling. all the work u have been just done and ended up wont start at all.. it happends to me few times. so dont feel bad.. i am sure theres out there does same thing.

Sounds like you blew the fuse to the power to the ECU..

-Thanks for all the replies, it was the fuse for the ecu. 20 amp one under the hood. now i just have to figure out why the gauge isn't working...i'm just thankful it started.

Where are you mounting the gauge? I just went through similar pain w/ the wiring of my boost gauge. If you are hooked into the right wires then it might be your wire taps. If you are using the ones that came with the gauge get rid of them. Go to a car stereo shop and get the wire taps they use they go on easier and work better.

did you disconnect the battery when you were hooking everything up? Probably not because you said you got a spark when you accidentally grounded your main wire to metal. When you did that, you looped the current which could cause a fuse to blow, just check them and you should be fine.

edit: sorry, i didnt' see originally that you got it started. as for the gauge working. check all your connections. and get those new wire taps as previously stated by soule77.

please disconnect the battery before working on ANY car's electronics
