My car's shaking...
 

I searched but couldn't find any topics on this. But just today while riding on the highway, around 65mph my car started shaking quite violently, my steering wheel was rattling in my hands and the passenger seat was bouncing...it was nuts. I figured it was just the cold, but on the way home it still did this. Anybody know what could be the cause of this? Could I have bent the chassis doing a few donuts in some fresh snow? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hey whats going on ? well it can be several things first thing it can be is rotors check and see if they are warped. When doing the donuts did your brake alot ??if so then the heat could of warped them and now when you drive it seems very shaky and annoying. I highley doubt you bent a rim or and axle but never kno check that

It doesn't shake when I brake, which would be warped rotors. It shakes when im just plain driving, it feels like im driving a geo metro or something. I didn't brake 'a lot' when playing in the snow, just normal braking...err i may have e-braked like a couple times around a few turns, that's it though...im pretty easy on my baby.

well when my rotors were warped it shaked when i was just plain driving because the brake pads were worn also and the brakes were not working properly the pads werent hitting the rotors correctly uneven wear and the rotor would have a uneven surface meaning shaking. but check your balance and air pressure on your tires and be a real easy fix

If you were doing donuts in the snow then I cant see bending a rim but maybe knocking a tire out of balance or something is possible and I would check the tires.

Check the balance of your tires, the lead weights on your tires and proper tire pressure.

I can't check my balance myself can I? That would need to be done at a dealership right? I don't have a lift or anything, and it's 0 degrees out...Anyhow, I JUST had the car to the dealership to get my winter tired put on, not 3 months ago...grrr, oh well, as long as the frame's ok on mah car Im alright, thanks. Should be under warranty.

yeah take it to the dealer tell them your haveing terrible shaking they will check tires etc...

Agreed, check the balance.

Also, check your lug nuts and make sure they are properly torqued, I had this problem and it was because someone loosened my lug nuts in hoping a wheel would fall off and id crash :crap: . Im not saying yours are loose but might be a litlte loose to cause a vibration at high speed.

Also, if none of this works, go for an all wheel alignment. Did you recently change wheels or tires? if so you are supposed to get an alignment or atleast its reccomended. Did you change suspension or ride height on your coilovers? If so, another alignment is reccomended.


1. Check Lug Nuts
2. Check Tire Balance
3. Alignment
4. If all else fails, bring it to the dealer and say :helpme:

Yeah, I brought the evo into the dealer to get my kumho's put on for the winter, also, they checked alignment, and the camber was off on the front tires a bit, so they fixed it all up right and put my new tires on, like I said, not even three months ago. So Im hoping they'll fix it right quick for no charge, they better. Goo d advice on the lug nuts, I'll give her a check. I appreciate the help, I'll go in on Monday if all else fails to the dealer.

This probably sounds like a no-brainer, but after you had some fun in the snow, did you take her to a spray bay and power wash in the wheel wells?

I know after having some fun, and getting the tires spinning in the snow, that it builds up in the wheel wells, and can cause vibrations, and in worst case senarios, can cause the wheels not to turn as much as they should.


Just something easy to check before you take it in.

also, snow accumulation in your rims makes your whels out of balance...happens when you play in the snow or park in a windy snow storm...just get the snow out of the rims if that's the problem

you probably knocked the weights off the wheel doin' donuts......

yeh balancing the tire, i agree.

The steering wheel should only shake when you brake if your rotors are warped.

That or you got some funky alignment.

oh and check for dead cats or rabbits...you may have sucked one in your wheelwell......
