RPM's don't come down; help?
New 05' Evo 8 with 750 miles. Accelerate hard in third gear and hold the rpm at 6,000 for a few seconds and when I take my foot off of the accelerator the rpm's don't drop very rapidly. I have to step on the brake or push the clutch in to get the revs to drop rapidly. Is this normal?

Your RPM's shouldn't be falling drastically at all if you just let up off the gas without any other pedal input. The engine is still connected to the wheels.
There's nothing wrong with what you described. If, however, the RPM's weren't dropping even when you put in the clutch or started to slow down using the brake, then there would be a problem. |
BTW, I wouldn't push your Evo so hard with under 1000 miles still on the odo.. Wait until you fully break it in to push it to 6000 RPM. Sounds a bit high.

Different problem.. What he's describing is that the engine speed doesnt drop quickly when he's still in gear.. If you let off the gas when your still in gear, the cars momentum will keep the engine speed up.. If you put the car in neutral or put your foot on the clutch and it doesnt drop. then there's something wrong..
Is this your first car with a manual transmission? |

it happens to me im by 5k miles, rev high on 3 or 4 and pop into neutral and rpms and drop real slow

If your moving while you do this, the engine's airflow sensor is getting positive airflow through the snorkle.. I've seen that happen on my car with the stock airbox..
