Will 17x9's rub?

I have the Tanabe Sustec's on my car. Wouldnt the 17x9 tires rub the sidewall?? Ive heard some diff thigns from people so i figured id write a topic to get some more info... thanks....

I don't think they will, when I was looking at aftermarket rims I was going to buy the 5zigen FN01R-C in 17x9 and they fit fine..

As long as it's a 35mm offset, you can run a 255/40/17 tire without rubbing.

meanmud Jan 4, 2005 06:58 AM

maybe 265x35 - depending on height?

evolved04 Jan 4, 2005 07:11 AM

hey sleet, i just ordered those exact same rims yesterday, in a 17x9 and i have a guarantee that they will not have any rubbing issues. they should be here next week, and ill keep you updated. i wanted the stock size but they were out so the guy swung a sweet deal on the 17x9. and i got the same tire that i wanted.

Smokin Evo Jan 4, 2005 07:21 PM

yea nothing less than a 35mm offset

Huscroft6 Jan 4, 2005 07:23 PM

Yea im looking at those same FN's, i have the 6 spoke, but I have 18's and are only 7 1/2 wide as compared to 9". thats all that was available over a year ago......

Huscroft6 Jan 4, 2005 07:28 PM

The ones I want are those wheels but 245/45/17...... Will those be ok with my car lowered 1.5"/1" ??? If so im ordering......

Huscroft6 Jan 4, 2005 07:46 PM

cant get em anymore. Just called Wheelmax, they dont get an EVO wheels anymore....

Z1 Performance Jan 6, 2005 06:43 AM

yes you can run a 17x9, just depends on offset. For a wheel like the FN01RC (very popular for track day wheels, as they look good, are reasonably light and strong and not very pricey), offset is +35. Different wheels might have a slightly different offset due to their spoke design (for caliper clearance).

if you guys need em, let me know :)

^ i am really worried that they will rub, but they should be here next thursday, and you better belive i will tell you all how they feel/look.

Z1 Performance Jan 6, 2005 08:12 AM

there are tons of guys running these already (we have sold around 100 sets in the last year to Evo's) - you are good to go! Your tire choice will likely determine if there is any rubbing or not...remember, not all tires in a give size have the same physical dimensions

4G63>OOOO Jan 6, 2005 09:48 AM

So far I've run 255/40/17 Bridgestone Potenza S-03's, Kumho MX and Toyo RA-1's on a 17x9, ET35 Weds SA-90 and it doesn't rub, even with the car really low in the back.

Stop worrying.

Huscroft6 Jan 6, 2005 05:12 PM

Well I want some, I emailed you Z1. Id need some pricing. I go with Kumho's....
