Revlimiter 05's?

I have an 05 and i can rev in gear up to 6-7k..........is there something wrong with my car is it only on MR's that have the rev limiter. Plus i know alot of you are going to probably flame but i also hit 160 in it( nobody was on the road 3am stright away fro about 10 miles so id ecided to see what the car had) and my buddy in his mr said 05's and and his mr cut off at 140? Should i talk to the dealer about the rev limiter or just be happy i dont have one.

true well iv met some people with 05 that cant rev above 5k.

All 05 have a rev limter in neutral, not while driving in a gear. The rev limiter is there to help prevent abuse of the drive train.

This is correct, all 05's have a 5k rev limiter while the car is not in motion. When the car is moving we all have the standard 7.6k limiter.

As far as top speed, I dont know why the MR would be limited at 140 and you aren't until 160. Maybe tire speed rating differences? I thought all the evos had the same exact tires though. You got me

that is not true. mine does not as i previously stated. in neutral i can rev it to the rev-limiter. i have not attempted a 5000rpm clutch drop yet so i do not know of this.

Yeah same here. In gear and in neutral i can rev to 7k. top speed yeah its weird the Mr just cut's out at 140 and mine kept going who knows my old wrx dipped way past 140 and buddies didnt.

7k or 7.6k? mine goes all the way. thats how i found out the 7.6k rev limit for the first time after breakin was in neutral at my house.

Yes, it is true. If your car doesn't have the launch limiter kick in at 5k rpm while not moving and the clutch fully depressed, then your car is faulty. There is a switch underneath the dash that is activated by the clutch pedal. Every 05 has it, so if yours is not working, then something is wrong. I'd inspect that switch (hard to see way up under the dash right behind the fuse panel) and make sure it's plugged in. If it is there and is plugged in, then I'd be worried, because it could indicate a short or malfunction somewhere that could cause other problems. The only problem with alerting the dealer is that you will be admitting to revving to 7k in neutral for no obvious reason. :D

As for going 160, regular factory speedometers are not accurate at such high speeds, so it's likely you weren't actually going that fast.

Knyght Apr 21, 2005 07:35 AM

It only does the 5k 2-step limiter when the clutch is depressed and the car is not in motion.

AutobonEvo Apr 21, 2005 07:36 AM

well 7.6k i was just sayin 7k just to be general. Yeah 7.6k it will hit rev limiter.

well then that explains it. the clutch is not depressed while im in neutral, thus no 5k limit.

Well, duh, why would you sit in neutral and rev to 7600 (practically speaking)? They didn't design it so that you couldn't rev while sitting still. They designed it so that you couldn't launch from a stop above 5k rpm.
