What is the most miles you've gone before the light?
I think the 26mpg highway claim is bull****. The last tank of gas I did 2.5k-3k shifts with no boosting. I pulled 3rd gear for maybe 5 seconds to pass a slow bulldozer, but other than that, I was in vaccum the entire time. This is with nearly 95% highway driving.
I got 307 miles before the light came on which equates to like 25.77 mpg. It's pretty good but still not 26. I don't know how freaking slow I'll have to drive this thing to get 26+ mpg. If I didn't commute 70 miles a day I wouldn't care, but with 8000 miles in 3 months, I gotta keep tabs on gas spending:crap: Don't get me wrong, if I really cared that much about gas mileage, I would've bought a Prius, but it's nice to have a 300+whp car that can get good gas mileage when asked. |
wow I've never gotten that many miles in without the light coming on. I think the most I've gotten was around 280. :dunno:

i never seen my gas light. For the longest time i didnt think the evo came with it... so i got into the habbit of filling at the 1/4 mark.

cruising at ~80mph behind a semi (aka drafting) i got 321 miles on 12.3 gallons (the light just barely came on when i went in for a refuel, needed to stretch my legs & let my co-driver over for the next tank). this was 100% highway miles driving through arizona on a super flat road... on a whole though, driving from mississippi to california i averaged about 24.5mpg
as far as driving around the city, i get like 16mpg because i love to hear the turbo spool (this is stock too, mods designed to "free up" horsepower i.e. exhaust will get you better mileage granted you dont take advantage of your newfound HP by flooring it every chance you get) |
drafting a semi wouldnt be my choice of things to do for a long stretch(rock chips!)
I get @ 250 avg on my tank which is 2/3rds hwy driving. Although my hwy driving is about 65-`100 mph in a 24 minute stretch. When i see an opening i take it like a raped ape! |
You think the light = a certain EXACT number of gallons left in the tank? BAHHHH haaa haaa haa ha. Oh man, you are killing me!
You measure gas milage by starting out with a full toped off tank. Then after driving a long distance (300 plus miles) you fill up again. Take the number of miles you drove and devide that by the number of gallons it takes to top off the tank. I have tracked my gas milage from the first tank of gas I put in my EVO. Best highway milage I got stock (no boost, doing speed limit) was 29.8 mpg. Now, modified to the point that I am making 375 HP at the wheels on my daily driver 93 octane tune I get the following milage when driving like a little old lady: Commute at 55 mph...............................27 mpg Commute at 70 mph.............................. 24 mpg Highway driving 80+ mph..................... 26 mpg Best highway mileage since modified.... 29.1 mpg Normal spirited driving I get between 19 and 23 mpg Normal highway driving I get between 24 and 28 mpg Keith |
i can easily get 300+mpg with full turboback exhaust/intake staying out of boost totally, once in a while i'll take it to about 3-4psi then get out of boost immediately, no drafting, winding roads, etc... and i've done it more than once traveling from socal to norcal

I usually get about 320 driving highway miles.

m i at the right forum? are u guys getting that many mpg out of the evo? damn... i only average at around 21 mpg with mix city and highway driving....
|
around 250
|
every time i fill up my car after the light came on, it only take 10.5 gallons max!
|
21mpg is just about right for regular city/freeway drive on evo.. mine too
however, during long stretch freeways i got like 25.89mpg :D As someone claims... taking the spoiler off will improve your mileage too... i think all those huge numbers come from RS? |
Yeah the light isn't perfect, you usually have a few more before you hit 12.00 gallons. About drafting, that's great and all, but even though you can brake a lot faster than a semi, you still can't go from 80 to 0 in half a second.
