Apex'i AVC-R or HKS EVC boost controller?

My MBC isn't holding the boost, so im gonna buy a electronic boost controller and hope for the best. Yes my MBC is installed correctly and yes i've checked my hoses and for leaks etc. Its about time i sack up and buy a electronic boost controller, but i can't seem to choose between the Apex'i AVC-R or the HKS EVC boost controller. I've heard excellent things about both of them, but i would like everyone's personal opinion.

I own an AVC-R and I think it is a great boost controller. I just rewired it to monitor injector duty cycle instead of rpm which is important info to have :) It has two separate maps for boost and you just adjust your duty to match the target boost you enter. Really easy to use and easy to adjust boost. I haven't seen the HKS so I don't know how good that one is.

thanks for the info! so how well does the avc-r hold boost? are you spiking high and dropping boost at all? Or is it holding strong all the way to redline? How much boost are you pushing, and do you have any form of ECU or FLash to help hold the boost?

i have friends with both. both work well without any issues.

the avcr has more features but requires splicing into the ecu harness. also the evc is a litle more straight forward setting up. so it mostly depends if you want the added features and bright blue display.

apexi all day its a lil more easy to play with then changing 6 screens just to set the boost on the hks

Holding boost till redline is more of a turbo issue not the controller. I hold 28psi till 8k rpms right now just fine. You can control how fast boost builds/spiking in the start duty function. It breaks down your gears from 1-5 and you pick how much to "advance" or "retard" the duty cycle in each gear. The more you advance the quicker you build boost, but the more spike you have.

I have the AVC-R and it works just fine...in fact I love it.

My friend has an EVC in his MR and he seems to love his EBC just as well..

to be honest, you cant go wrong with either.

I have had the HKS evc 5 and am now using a AVC-R and can say I like the simplicty of the HKS display and the turn the knob boost control but the AVC-R does so mutch more. Injector duty cycle display is cool to moniter and the gear learing feature came in handy when tuning on the dyno. I say it is a toss up both are good pieces but I will not be riping the AVC-R out of my car as I did with the HKS.
